Athens has variety of desserts

In a stressful college environment, some
times reaching for the sugar bowl is the
best way to relieve tension. Instead of feel
ing guilty, embrace all the wonderful
desserts Athens has to offer.
On West Broad St., between Lumpkin
and College Ave. is Cold Stone Creamery,
the top of every ice cream connoisseur’s list.
The customer holds complete creative con
trol, first choosing from a variety of ice
creams and sorbets, such as Sweet Cream
and Orange Sorbet. Then, after reviewing
the countless topping options, which
include walnuts, Snickers, graham crackers
and more, one can select two to be
smashed into the ice cream.
The “Birthday Cake Remix,” a suggested
mix of ice cream and toppings, is a popular
combination that consists of brownies and
rainbow sprinkles mixed together with
Cake Batter ice cream.
For the more daring, there are more
exotic mixes of flavors.
“Anything mixed into a sorbet (is a
weird mix),” said John Cropp, an employee
from Athens.
“We have a guy who comes in and tries
things like watermelon sorbet with choco
late sprinkles and almonds.”
Beginning in mid-October, Cold Stone
Creamery will be offering Pumpkin-flavored
ice cream and in December, Peppermint-fla
vored ice cream. A small-sized bowl of any
flavor with two toppings is $3.19 and a
medium-sized bowl with two toppings is
$3.49.
University students with a valid UGA ID
can also receive twenty percent off their
purchase.
Rirther down Broad Street, between
College Ave. and Jackson St. is the Five
Star Day Cafe, which offers a variety of
homemade desserts at student-friendly
prices like their super-sized Rice Krispies
Treats and its more colorful counterpart,
Fruity Pebble Treats, both of which are
made in-store and are available daily for $2
each.
The slightly more complex bar,
“Butterscotch Yum-Yum,” which contains
Cornflakes and melted butterscotch, and the
