Lawrence Conneff Bulldogs hopeful in SEC first round By PHILLIP KISUBIKA pkisubika@randb.coni It was a bittersweet send-off for Levi Stukes and Steve Newman. On a day when the two seniors played their last scheduled game at Stegeman Coliseum, the Georgia men's basketball team saw its hopes of an NCAA tournament berth all but fade away. Tennessee’s Chris Lofton scored 12 of his 14 points in the final five and a half min utes to push the Vols past Georgia 71-65 Saturday. With the loss, the Bulldogs (17-12, 8-8 SEC) clinched the No. 5 SEC seed in the Eastern division for next week’s SEC Tournament in Atlanta. In all likelihood, the Bulldogs will have to win the tournament to get into the NCAA Tournament. Stukes who returned from a one-game suspen sion got a good reception from the crowd in the pregame ceremony. But he could not get it going on the offensive end, scoring only eight points on 2-of-10 shooting.
