‘Halloween’ remake a ‘muddle’
BY BRIAN HUGHES
The Red & Black
Don’t expect Rob Zombie’s
“Halloween” to stack up to the
original. Otherwise, you’ll feel
as if you ordered filet mignon
only to have Hamburger
Helper slopped on your plate.
It’s both sad and ironic that
this muddle shares a name
with the archetypal slasher
picture, for this is only the lat
est in a sting of adrenaline
pumping horror mishaps that
mistake blood as synonymous
with thrilling.
'The remake is nothing more
than a slaughter fest, full of
extended and unnecessary
brutality minus any sense of

Zombie’s mess is billed as a
reinvention of John

but don’t inventions require

Under Zombie’s direction,
Michael Myers is merely a
byproduct of a broken home.
Blame his stripper mom, drunk
step-dad and whore of a sister.
Basically, a trashier personifi

In his half-assed attempt to
humanize the madman,
Zombie sucks the screams out
of his picture. What made
Michael Myers so scary three •

to rationalize his heinous

Nothing more.
Apparently, Zombie didn’t
trust our intelligence and elim

builds a convoluted sympathy
for the little devil, he rehashes
the same story we’ve already
been exposed to in a superior
fashion.
Myers stumbles and moans

My sandwich came out
after a 10-minute wait,
and though there was
nothing spectacular about
the sandwich itself the
ingredients used were
rather bland it was
huge and incredibly filling.
On the second day I
ordered a Cobb salad,
which I deem a greater
success. The blend of avo

tasted great. I could tell

he once used to back up his boastful

social deconstruction or celebration,
the only issue on the Don's agenda is
defending his honor. He boldly proved

One of Hollywood’s most

Thank you, Mr. Zombie. You

Drastic Fantastic
Following KT Tunstall’s debut
“Eye to the Telescope,” anyone with a
radio, set of ears or set of eyes was
well in need of a break from the
Scottish songstress' incessant
“a-woo-hoo” wails and “Suddenly I
See's.” For all the fellow skeptics out
there, put her freshman foray aside,
because Tunstall is surprisingly far
from a sophomore slump. “Drastic
Fantastic” is far more enjoyable and
approachable than Tunstall's debut
effort of pop fluff, demonstrating her
aptitude as a sweet, but strong and
solid pop-rock songwriter. She
achieves a delicate duality between
Jewel and Tori Amos on “White Bird,”
but hones her signature swagger on
