Student eited for survey remarks

A student who wrote disparaging
comments on an anonymous course
evaluation now finds himself facing
University sanctions.
Brian Beck, a landscape architecture
mgjor from Gordon, was found in viola
tion of three University Code of Conduct
regulations in a decision announced
last week by University Judiciary. Beck
violated the code due to:

The No. 17 Georgia soc
cer team lost Friday for
the first time in more than
a month, snapping a nine
game unbeaten streak
before tying Ole Miss
Sunday.
The last time Georgia
lost was Sept. 14 to No. 10
South Carolina. The
unbeaten streak was the
longest in Georgia’s
13-year history.
Despite outshooting
Mississippi State 28 to
nine and taking eight cor
ner kicks without conced
ing one, Georgia (12-2-2,
5-1-2) failed to score for
only the second time this
season. Georgia goalkeep
er Michelle Betos didn’t
make a single save, as
Mississippi State (6-8-2,
2-4-2) scored on the only
shot it placed on goal.
In minute 81, Katelyn
Graben’s shot from out
side the penalty box
deflected off a Georgia
defender and went into
the goal.
“We were a bit unlucky,”
team captain Joni Vickers
said. “We didn’t finish. We
had some good opportu
nities. At this level, you’ve
got to finish because cha
nces are hard to come
by.”
Georgia had a chance
to rebound Sunday after
noon against Ole Miss
(6-6-3, 3-3-1), but the fix
ture ended in a scoreless
tie. Although Georgia out
shot the Rebels six to two,
none of the Bulldogs’
strikes put much pressure

Beck’s violations stem from com
ments made on two course evaluations
in Joseph Disponzio’s History of the
Built Environment course sequence.
On the first course evaluation, Beck
was asked “What aspects of the course
could use improvement or change?”
Beck wrote: “Joe Disponzio is a com
plete asshole. I hope he chokes on a
dick, gets AIDS and dies. To hell with
all gay teachers who are terrible with
their jobs and try to fail students!”
During a phone interview with The
Red & Black, Disponzio said, “As
always, there were good comments and
bad comments. I am a difficult profes
sor. After receiving the comment [in
January] I went to my dean about it. I
was not amused by it.”

Woman:
van driver
followed
me home
By CAROLYN CRIST
The Red & Black
Women continue to tell police of a suspi
cious man offering them rides. A fifth woman,
also a University student, told police a man fol
lowed her home early Thursday morning after
she declined his offer for a ride.
Police said the case may be related to two
abductions that occurred during the Georgia-
South Carolina football game weekend.
The man matches the description of the
suspect from the previous incidents, police
said.
The student said she was walking home
from downtown Athens with three other
women when a suspicious man approached
them.
When they were near their home at
Whistlebury Condominiums on North Avenue
at 2:15 a.m., a car pulled up and a man offered
to take them home. They told the man they all
lived nearby and didn’t need a ride, according
to the police report.
The woman said the man drove away, the
four of them walked home, and someone
knocked at the door 10 minutes later.
The woman had enough time to change
clothes, she told police.
The woman opened the door because she
was expecting a friend to visit, but it was the
man who offered the women a ride.
“I had no idea while it was happening that it
could have been the same guy,” the woman
said during a phone interview Sunday. “I just
wanted to go to bed and get him away.”
She described the suspect as a 5’6” male
between 25 to 30 years old, who had a brown
crew cut and was a “stocky” 190 pounds. He
wore a black polo shirt and baggy, long black
shorts.
“I didn’t realize until the detective talked to
me that the appearances were the same,” she
said. “The detective continues to contact me.”
The man asked to come inside because it
was cold outside. The woman told him, “She
was about to go to bed because she had been
drinking and had to get some sleep,” the report
said. But he continued to try to enter the
apartment, according to the report.
He put his hand on her hip and tried to kiss
her. The woman told him her boyfriend lived
with her and pushed him back, but he grabbed
her arm gently and told her it was the first time
he had ever really gone after a girl.
A female roommate came out of her room
