Biking an alternative to driving

Sweat trickled down
Lorenzo Almada’s back as he
pedaled up the never-ending
hilL He wasn’t enduring the
summer heat to train for a
triathlon or a long-distance
race he was just trying to
get to work.
*1 bought my bike about a
year ago because parking
around campus is such a
hassle,'* Almada said. “Plus
it ends up being a lot
cheaper than driving every
where."
As the price of gas rises,
there's been an increase of
something else in Athens
bikers on the city streets.
The Classic City is renowned
for its biker-friendly commu
nity, with places such as The
Hub Bicycles and Nitty
Gritty Bike Band hosting
weekly road and mountain
rides. But with the sharp
increase in gas prices, biking
