University Police Chief Jimmy
Williamson, who issued the alert
25 minutes after police were first
notified, also said he thought the
system preformed well.
“We were successful in that we
had information and got it out,”
he said, “I’m sure we fell short for
some folks, but I think that some
are pleased.”
Williamson said it can be diffi
cult to decide when to issue an
alert.
“Some folks will probably say,
about UNC-Wilmington, but I
know they’re a conference
champion and that they’ve
had a pretty good spell here
down the stretch, so we’re
going to have to get to know
them pretty quickly.”

we’ve been given this path,

‘Well, you should have gotten that
information out in 10 minutes.’
It’s easier to say that than actu
ally do it,” he said. “If you want
quick info, it’s never going to be
perfect. If you want info to be per
fect, it’s never going to be timely.”
Before issuing an alert,
Williamson said he has to con
sider how accurate his informa

cause people undue concern.

The program, which you pay $5 for in student fees each

trying to figure out what to do with the money.
“Do we need to add more locations, or maybe increase
awareness of an under utilized service?” said Ed Mirecki,
director of the program and adviser to the Student
Government Association, which originally implemented
the program. “That’s the wild card question. What Changes

With a win Friday, the
Bulldogs will be looking to
make their first NCAA second
round appearance since 2007,
when the Bulldogs were nar
rowly - defeated 1-0 by the
Duke Blue Devils.
“We’ve got to take it one
game at a time, and we don’t
want to assume anything, so
we know we’re going to have
to go in and play some really
good soccer on Friday in
hopes of being able to play
again Sunday in the second
round,” said Baker
Should the Bulldogs
advance Friday, the competi
tion will likely only get stiffer
as the second round matches
get under way Sunday. The
Bulldogs are slated to face
the winner of Friday’s match
between High Point and host
UNC-Chapel Hill, who enters
tournament play with one of
four No. 1 overall seeds and
an impressive 17-3-1 record.

In April 2009, police waited

This situation was unique,

thought the alert might notify
