According to Athens-Clarke

When the Georgia Secretary

campaign, a spokesperson
contacted Stegall about
accusations of running a raf

Stegall said he knew he had

“In campaigns your oppo

Freshman secures

Derek Owens has "swag.”
Or at least that’s the term head
coach Mark Richt used to describe
his freshman comerback.
“I guess the boys call it swag.
He’s got a little swag.” Richt said.
"He just believes in himself and he’s
super quick and he’s tough and he’s
got good hands. I know our players
would say in the summer he Just
never seemed to get tired.”
Owens’ name has been flying out
of the mouths of his teammates and
coaches throughout preseason
camp. His playmaking abilities
already have coaches sliding his
name up on the depth chart.

Fellow comerback Brandon
Boykin said Owens has grabbed
everyone’s attention by making
more plays during practice than any
of the other comerbacks or the
secondary as an entire unit. Boykin
also said Owens’ performance is
deserving of some playing time this
season.
“It’s funny because I used to
make a lot of plays my freshman
year and I said it was the Jersey
because he’s got that No. 20 on like
I used to wear my freshman year,”
Boykin joked. “I said it’s the power
of the jersey. But he’s doing a good
job.”
With all the heads he has turned
and plays he has made, his relatively
small stature has not been a factor.
