DEFENSE
Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley (7.5 sacks, No. 2 in the SEC) may be the only other
defender In the conference who can claim he causes as much havoc In opposing back
fields as Georgia’s Justin Houston (9 sacks, No. 1 in the SEC). Despite Fairley, Auburn's
defense has been somewhat vulnerable for a 100 team. The Tigers rank No. 8 in the SEC
in scoring defense, giving up 24.3 points per game to Georgia’s 19.4. Auburn's been par
ticularly susceptible through the air, allowing opponents to throw for 241.3 yards per
game. Pay attention early to sss if the Georgia passing attack can get off to a hot start
against the Auburn secondary in what should be an offensive shootout.

SPECIAL TEAMS
In what is expected to be a shootout, the special teams game is going to be huge. A big
play on special teams could turn toe tide In toe game. This game matches two of the con
ference’s top three kick returners Brandon Boykin (28 6 yards per return) and Auburn's
Demond Washington (26.9). But Auburn’s punting unit has been horrid for much of the
season llth In toe SEC with a 33.8 yard net —and Georgia’s Branden Smith, when
healthy, is a dynamic weapon in the punt return game. Both Auburn and George have solid
kicking games, so a big play in the return game could shift toe tide in one team’s favor in
this department.

COACHING
While the allegations against Cam Newton could serve as a distraction for the No. 2
Tigers. Gene Chizik has plenty to keep his team focused on the present. With a win, Auburn
would lock up the SEC West, regardless of what happens in the season finale against
Alabama. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, are simply playing for each other, hoping for a
signature win that could poke a serious hole in a rival's national championship hopes. For
Auburn, it’s the classic trap game. A mediocre Georgia squad comes in two weeks before
the Tigers head to a game at in-state rival Alabama. But Auburn’s been exceptional at
home this season 7-0 on the season —and Georgia's been equally poor away from
home this season at 1-4. It’s hard to ignore the fact that Chizik is 100 after facing a brutal
schedule, playing at home with the best team Auburn has seen since the undefeated
bunch of 2004.
