“We’re delighted with
the selection of our team
to represent the
Southeastern Conference
in the Autozone Liberty
Bowl,” Georgia athletic
director Greg McGarity
said in Sunday's telecon

“George is a hard-nosed
football coach. Every team
he’s ever put out there can
play a physical brand of
ball,” Richt said in Sunday’s
teleconference. “I have a
lot of respect for George,
and his ability to coach
football. It’ll be a great
challenge for our guys.”
A challenge not only for
the Bulldogs but for the
Knights too. It’s not often
Central Florida gets the
chance to face an SEC
opponent, even if Georgia’s
season hasn’t gone as well
as hoped.
“It’s an SEC team that
is traditionally a power
house in that league,”
O’Leary said in Sunday’s
teleconference. ’’We’ll have
our work cut out for us.”

Akeeme Martin spends his Friday
nights the best way he knows how
playing tunes in the booth of WUOG’s
Tate studio.
Martin began as a DJ at WUOG in 2005
and now hosts his own show, “Half Time
Hip Hop,” on Fridays from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.
“I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Honestly
for me there’s really no trade off. Doing this
show is probably the best thing I could do.
We all have a lot of fun,” he said. “I’ve
danced my behind off with just me in here. I
bring the club in here.”
Martin is a senior psychology and music
major. His interest in music began early in
band and then continued into high school
where he created mixed tapes for friends.

Lady Dogs tripped up by Georgia Tech
By RYAN BLACK
The Red & Black
ATLANTA Going into its
game against Georgia Tech
Sunday, pundits pointed to one
fact: Georgia women’s basket
ball team had won 27 of the 30
all-time meetings between the
two schools.
But at the conclusion of the
game, only one stat mattered:
two.
Two, as in the number of
losses the Lady Bulldogs (6-2)
now have this season.
Two, as in the number of con
secutive losses the Lady
Bulldogs have suffered to the
Lady Yellow Jackets in Atlanta,
following their defeat in 2008.

Martin became even more interested in
music when his brother left for college.
“Once he went to college, I started doing
some digging on my own into urban music,”
he said. “Once I got to WUOG, I was exposed
to more music.”
Martin’s DJ career took off from there.
“It really just fell into my lap,” he said. “I
didn’t think it would get to this level this
fast.”
In addition to the regular radio broad
cast of his show, “Half Time Hip Hop” is also
a syndicated program that can be heard as
far away as Taiwan.

The case of the missing 15-foot inflat
able chicken appears to be solved.
Athens resident Kristen Morales,
wife of Red & Black editorial adviser Ed
Morales, spotted the chicken behind
the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house dur
ing a walking sorority house tour of
Milledge Avenue.
“I look over and I’m like, ‘Wow, that’s
a big chicken they’ve got over there,”’
she said.
Morales said she saw young men
spray-painting the word “pledge” across
the chicken’s chest in large, blue capital
letters. She took a photo and then called
the police.
Big Zach, the $3,000 inflatable
Zaxby’s mascot, went missing from the
front lawn of the Georgia Center for
Continuing Education Oct. 4. So far, no
charges have been pressed, but
University Police Chief Jimmy
Williamson said the incident is still
under investigation.
But as far as Morales is concerned,
the only question still under investiga
tion is whether she’ll get the $750 gift
card reward the chain offered for the
mascot’s safe return.
“The ironic thing about this is I don’t
eat chicken,” Morales, a vegetarian,
said. “I do enjoy their fries.”
But rather than have a lifetime sup
ply of crinkle-cut fries and Zax sauce,
Morales said she would use the money
to get into the holiday spirit.
“I think it’d be nice to get some din
ners for people at the Athens homeless
shelter,” she said. “I would totally try to
find some charitable thing.”

Mitchell would finish their
college careers without getting
a victory on the Lady Yellow
Jackets’ home floor.
But if this defeat bothered
Phillips more than others, she
did not say it.
“It’s a tough loss, but we have
a game coming up, so we just
have to focus on that next
game,” she said.
Georgia Tech jumped out to
an 18-11 lead at the 12:29 mark
of the first half.
But Georgia fought back to
take a 24-20 lead of its own with
eight minutes to go before half
time.
That was the biggest lead
