have long been active in our
Council and are thoroughly fa
miliar with its structure. Oth
ers are new and want to know
what it is all about. It is to
these that I will address my re
marks about the Council.” She
stated that the “work of the
Council is NOT club work—it
is GOD’S WORK. Neither is it
another organization — it is an

direction of the Bishops.
PIUS XI-
(Continued from Page 1)
Pontiff has repeatedly asked
chiefs of state to negotiate for
peace. He has received an am
bassador from a communist
nation, Cuba. Catholic chiefs
of state in Europe have engag
ed in negotiations with com
munist nations, and even in
trade agreements with these
powers, without receiving any
rebuke from the Holy See.
Those who reread the encyc
lical “On Atheistic Commun
ism” after 25 years will feel
that it shows more than human
wisdom and foresight. The
guidance of the Holy Spirit is
evident in this document that
anticipated so many major
events of modern history.
