VATICAN CITY—Reports that
German Catholic Bishops had for
warded to the Holy Father a plan
for world peace are fully denied
here.

“1920 Minstrels” in Augusta, was
Grand Knight of Patrick Walsh
Council from 1911 to 1912. Mr.
Mathewes work as a member of
the council’s degree team won him
fame throughout the South.
NEW CHAPLAIN AT
AUGUSTA AIR BASE
AUGUSTA, Ga.—Lieut. John M.
Healy, a priest of the Archdiocese
of Philadelphia, formerly stationed
at Camp Croft, S. C., is now a
chaplain at Daniel Field, U. S.
Army Airbase here.
Chaplain Healy was assistant
pastor of St. Agnes Church, West
Secular newspaper reports
stated that it was understood the
Catholic Bishops of Germany sent
a letter to His Holiness Pope Pius
XII, which contained a plan for
world peace described as “fair for
both campi” It also said the plan
called for the evacuation of Ger
many of all Western Europe, ex
cept Alsace and Lorraine, the
granting of autonomy to Austria
within the Reich, and the recon
stitution of the nations of Eastern
Europe within , new ethnic fron
tiers.
Some of these reports carried
tlje implication that by means of
the letter the German Bishops
were furthering a Nazi “peace of
fensive.’

Book Club in New York. It is pub
lished by Longmans, Green and
Co. The volume is a biography of
Bishop Simon Gabriel Brute de
Remur, first Bishop of Vincenes.

James J. Farrell, first publicity
director of the Catholic Laymen’s
Association of Georgia, and editor
of The Bulletin at the time of his
death in 1920, was Grand Knight
of Patrick W’alsh Council, Knights
of Columbus, Augusta, from 1910
to 1911.

ROME. Ga.—The summer quart
erly meeting of the Atlanta Dean
ery of the National Council of
Catholic Women was held in Rome,
with Mrs. George Horton, presi
dent of the Rome Council acting
as hostess for the meeting.
Following Mass, which was cele
brated at St. Marys Church by the
Rev. James H. Grady, luncheon
was served at the General For
rest Hotel.
After luncheon the business ses
sion was held and various commit
tee chairmen reported on the acti- I
vities of the councils of the Dean- !
ery. Mrs. Jack Leamy gave a re
sume of the National Convention
held in Hollywood, Fla., this
spring, and Mrs. William McAlpin
reported on the Diocesan Conven
tion held in Savannah.
The Rev. Francis P. Conlon, O.
M. I., pastor of St. Paul's Church,
Douglas, addressed the meeting,
at the conclusion of which Solemn
Benediction was given at St. Mary’s
Church.

ENTERTAINS SOLDIERS
ATLANTA, Ga.—The Alumnae
Association of the Sacred Heart
School entertained soldiers from
Lawson General Hospital, Naval
Reserve Aviation Base, Fort Mc
Pherson and the Quartermaster
Depot on Sunday, August 16 at the
Knights of Columbus Club. Mrs.
Harry Pomar, Mrs. John Doyle
and Miss Mary McTiernan served
as hostesses.

Rev. Thomas J. Shields, S. J.,
Provincial of the New Orleans
Province of the Society of Jesus,
has announced changes effecting

The Rev. Terence King; who
was an army chaplain in World
War 1. has by special permission
of the army been allowed now to
serve both army and navy men at
Key West, Fla., not as a commis
sioned chaplain, but as a civilian
chaplain. The Rev.. John Buckley
will sene as a civilian chaplain
among the civilian refugees in
Jamaica. -
The Rev. Joseph Malloy and the
Rev. Robert Libortini will serve
as army chaplains. The P.ev.
Gabriel Barras and the Rev. W al
ter Felis, are awaiting commis
sions as chaplains.
The Rev. A. William Crandell
who has been assistant dean in
the .college of arts and science- at
Loyola University of the South,
becomes dean, succeeding the Rev.
Warren J. Barker, who will be
assistant dean at Spring Hill Col
lege, Mobile.

APPOINTED ASSISTANT AT
SACRED HEART, AUGUSTA
AUGUSTA, Ga. The Rev.
James J. Wallace. S. J., who for
the past ten years lias been Regent
of the Dental School at Loyola
University of the South. New Or
leans, has been appointed an
assistant pastor of the Sacred
Heart in Augusta. Father Wallace
was formerly a member of live
Jesuit Missionary Board and is
well-known throughout the South.
