nounced the appointment of the
Very Rev. Hugh Dolan, pastor
of St. B e n e d i c t’s Church,
Greensboro, North Carolina, as
Dean of the newly erected
Greensboro Deanery.

USO-NCCS CLUB
SAVANNAH, Ga—On the eve
ning of February 27 service men
were entertained at a dance held
at the USO Club operated by the
National Catholic Community Ser
vice, with Rudolph's orchestra fur
nishing the music.
Mrs. T. J. Dowling was chair
man of the refreshment commit
tee. with Mrs. William Leonard.
Mrs. W. A. Dawson, Mrs. John
Sullivan, Mrs. Robert Jiran and
Mrs. Fred A. Holtz assisting in
serving. The chaperones were:

Walsh, Mrs. D. J. Colvin, Mrs.
Jenny Bohan and Miss Kate
Cromley. Coffee was poured by

Religious Book Week
March 28 to April 3
AUGUSTA. Ga. — For several
months four committees of Catho
lic, Protestant and Jewish scholars
and writers in various literary
fields, have given time and
thought to the choice of a list of
books which has been published
in pamphlet form by The National
Conference of Christians and Jews
which is sponsoring Religious
Book Week from March 28 to
April 3, with the thought of en
couraging good will and better
understanding, and promoting
about a better feeling among
Americans, regardless of creed, at
a time when the united endeavor
of Americans of every religious
belief is essential to the nation’s
war effort.
The books listed include
volumes such as ‘’The Story of
American Catholicism,’’ by Theo
dore Maynard; ‘The Pageant of
the Popes.” by John Farrow; “God
and Intelligence,” by Monsignor
Fulton J. Sheen; “The Catholic
Pattern,” by Thomas F. AYood-
lock; “The Life and Times of
John England,” by the Rt. Rev.
Peter Guilday; ‘The World s Great
Catholic Literature,” by George
Shuster; “Thomas More,” by
Daniel Sargent; “The Bishop Jots
It Down,” by Most Rev. Francis
C. Kelley, and ‘Fish on Friday,"
by Leonard Feeney, S. J. There
is also a separate juvenile book
list.
Booksellers and libraries
throughout Georgia have been re
quested to coperate by arranging
exhibits of such of the books
listed as may be on their shelves.

CLUB IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga—With Jacob
son’s orchestra furnishing the
music, a enjoyable dance was
given for men in the armed forces
at the USO-NCCS Club on Liberty
Street the night of March 6.|

KIRK SUTLIVE ACCEPTS
PUBLIC RELATIONS POST
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Kirk Sut-
live, editor of The Blackshear
Times, has accepted a position as
public relations manager of the
Union Bag and Paper Company,
resigning his position as Deputy
Administrator of the War Savings
Staff of the Treasury Department.
While the new position will re
quire that Mr. Sutlive spend much
of his time in Savannah, he will
continue to edit the paper in
Blackshear and still reside there.
Mr. Sutlive,. one of the few Catho
lic editors in Georgia, was some
years ago elected president of the
Georgia Press Association.
RALEIGH, N. C — His Excel
lency the Most Rev. Eugene J.
McGuinness, D. D., Bishop of Ra
leigh, has announced the follow
ing changes affecting clergy in
the Diocese of Raleigh:
The Very Rev. Hugh Dolan,
V. F., pastor of St. Benedict's
Church, Greensboro, has been
appointed Dean of the newly-
erected Greensboro Deanery.
The Rev. Philip B. Edelen, who
has been administrator of Blessed
Sacrament Church, Burlington, has
enlisted in the Chaplains’ Corps
of the U. S. Army and is now at
tending the School for Chaplains
at Harvard University.
The Rev. Eugene Livelsberger.
who has been assistant pastor of
St. Lawrence Church, Asheville,
has been appointed pastor of
Blessed Sacrament Church, Bur
lington.
The Rev. Charles O'Conno.’.
who has been assistant pastor of
St. Therese's Church, AVilson, has
been appointed assistant pastor of
St. Lawrence Church, Asheville.
Father Dolan was born in Coun
ty Cavan, Ireland, and received
his primary education in the Na
tional Schools of Ireland, and bis
secondary education at St. Pat
rick’s College, Caven, Ireland.
His education for the priesthood
was completed at Mount St.
Mary’s Seminary, Emmitsburg.
where he was ordained for the
Diocese of Raleigh in 1934.
He has served as assistant and
pastor of St. Theresa’ s Church,
Wilson; as assistant at St. Mary’s
Church, Wilmington; as pastor of
St. Margaret’s Church, Swan-
nanoa, and as pastor cf St. Bene
dict's Church, Greensboro.
Father Livelsberger, the new
pastor in Burlington, was ordain
ed for the Diocese of Raleigh in
1939. and his first assignment
was as assistant pastor of St.
Mary’s Church, Durham. He lias
since served also as assistant pas
tor of St. Benedict’s Church,
Greensboro.
Father Livelsberger was born
in Hanover, Pa., on December 24,
1913, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Henry D. Livelsberger. He at
tended Sacred Heart School and
St. Mary’s High School. McSger-
rystown, Pa., Mount St. Mary's
College, Emmitsburg, Md.. and
Mount St. Mary's Seminary.
Father Edelen, who is entering
the Chaplains’ Corps of the U. S.
Army, was ordained to the priest
hood in Raleigh by Bishop Mc
Guinness in 1940. He is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Edelen, of
Raleigh, and was the first member
of the Cathedral parish here to
etner the priesthood. Before be
ing named administrator of the
Blessed Sacrament parish in Burl
ington, Father Edelen served as
assistant pastor of St. Anthony's
Church, and chaplain at Notre
Dame Academy, Southern Pines.
Father O'Connor was ordained
last year. His home was in Phila
delphia, where he attended Our
Lady of Lourdes Inter-Paro
chial School and West Phila
delphia Catholic High School.
He completed his study
for the priesthood at Saint
Charles Seminary, Overbrook and
Mount St. Mary's Seminary, Em-
muitsburg. His first assignment
following his ordination fdr the
Diocese of Raleigh v.as as assist
ant pastor of St. Therese’s Church,
Wilson.
PROVINCIAL OF MARIST
BROTHERS VISITS BOYS’
HIGH SCHOOL, AUGUSTA
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Reverend
Brother Louis Omer, F. M. S., the
newly appointed Provincial of the
Marist Brothers, was a recent visit
or at the Boys’ Catholic High
School, conducted by the Marist
Brothers here.
Brother Provincial is a native of
Lowell, Mass, and entered the Or
der in 1913. AA'hen Brother Paul
Stratonic was recently named As
sistant General of the American
Provinces of the Marist Order,
Brother Louis, then Director of the
Marist Brothers’ Provincial House
at Poughkeepsie, N. Y., was ap
pointed his successor.
Three students at Boys’ Catho
lic High chool have entered the
armed forces since classes were
resumed after the Christmas holi
day. Paul Ha\vkins t of the junior
class has enlisted in the Marines.
Edward Sommer, also a junior,
_and John Dunn, a sophomore, have
joined the Navy.
