Mrs. Sorenson is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Abramson,
of Enumclew, Wash., and Lieuten
ant Sorenson is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. A. Sorenson, of Enum
clew.
AUGUSTA, Ga —Mr. Edward A.
Leonard, of Savannah, announces
the marriage of his sister, Miss
Loretta Mary Leonard, of Augusta,
to Pfc. Peter Joseph McManus, of
Letrim, Ireland, and New York
City, on March 6, at St. Joseph’s
Church, Athens, the Rev. John J.
Kennedy officiating.
Mrs. McManus is the daughter
of the late Edward A. Leonard
and Mary T. Leonard, of Savan
nah, and was the niece of the late
Air. and Mrs. Daniel J. Bolster,
of Augusta. Private Leonard is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mc
Manus. of Ireland.

Mr. Martin is the son of Mr
and Mrs. John C. Martin, of Co
lumbus. He is a graduate of Geor
gia Tech and is now engaged in
war production work in Atlanta.

lene Wilson, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Wilson, of Raleigh,
N. C., and Pfc. Albert James
Novak, of Baltimore, were married
on February 21 at the rectory of
the Cathedral of the Assumption,
in Baltimore, the Rev. John J.
Duggan officiating.
FATHER TOOMEY
SAVANNAH, Ga.—The Most
Rev. Gerald P. O'Hara, D. D. J
U. D., has appointed the Rev. John
D. Toomey, assistant rector of the
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
here, to succeed Monsignor Joseph
G. Cassidy as pastor of the Sacred
Heart Church in Milledgeville,
where he will serve also as chap
lain for the Catholic patients at the
State Hospital and be in charge of
the missions at Sandersville and
Ivey.
Father Toomey, a native of Au
gusta, is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Pierce Toomey. He was born in
Augusta on April 2, 1914, attend
ed Mount St. Joseph’s School and
the Academy of Richmond County,
in his home city, St. Charles Col
lege, Catonsville, Md., and the Ca
tholic University of America,
where he received his A. B. and
M. A. degrees and attended the
Theological College. He was
ordained to the priesthood less
than two years ago, on June 7,
1941, at the Cathedral of Christ
the King, in .Atlanta, by Bishop
O’Hara. Since his ordination he
has served as assistant rector of the
Cathedral in Savannah.
Father Toomey has earned
merited distinction as a writer,
having contributed articles to
many Catholic magazines. For
several years he as a counsellor
at Camp Villa Marie- near Savan
nah.

and the late Mr. Johnston, of
Springfield, Ohio.

ATLANTA, Ga.—In a combined
report, the Particular Council of
Atlanta and the Conferences of
the Immaculate Conception, Sacred
Heart- St. Anthony’s Christ the
King, St. Thomas More, and Our
Lady of Lourdes, of the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul, render an
account covering the year 1942
which should be a source of pride
and satisfaction to the officers and
members of the Society, and merit
for them a greater measure of sup
port in their exemplification of
the greatest of all virtues, Charity.
With 62 active members, 58
honorary members and 101 bene
factors and subscribers listed, here
are some of the things which have
been accomplished:

The financial statement shows
that from the contributions of
members, collections in churches,
contributions from honorary mem
bers, subscribers, benefactors and
other sources, the cash received
amounted to $7,941.78, and the
value of clothing, medical, hospital.
and legal services, canned goods,
furniture and toys, rentals, stamps
and stationery- donated, amounted
to $1,838.32.
The statement shows that dis
bursements were made in the fol
lowing amounts: For Food, $3,-
$461.01; for clothing, shoes, etc.,
$301.56; for shelter. $684,000; fuel,
water, light, $193.03; school books,
carfare for school children, trans
portation, $356.18, St. Joseph’s In
firmary, $200.00; Little Sisters of
the Poor, $300.00; St. Mary’s
Home, $200.00; St. Joseph’s Home,
$200.00; hospitalization, medicines,
including Free Cancer Home,
$584.00; cash for meals, lodging,
and other necessities for tran
sients, $105.00; baskets of food-
candy, toys, money and clothing
for aged and children at Christmas,
$532.00; markers for graves in
cemetery lot of the society, $36.00;
Superior Council of the Society,
$60.00; stamps, printing, stationery
$35.08.
After these disbursements, and
the distributing of the clothing and
other articles valued at $1 838 22,
there was on hand at the end of
the year $693.92.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Men in the
service were able to receive aid in
preparing and filing Income Tax
Returns at the USO Club operated
here jointly by the National Cath
olic Welfare Council and the Jew
ish Welfare Board.
Other services that the club is
offering the men in uniform in
cluded shaving kits, shine kits, use
of .art room, use of dark room, use
of hobby shop, baggage checking,
camera checking, pressing, sewing,
showers, wrapping service, soldier
shoppers, legal aid, notary public,
and rooms secured.
For the entertainmentd and
amusement of the soldiers, the
club is providing dancing, basket
ball, wrestling, tumbling, musical
hours, concerts, motion pictures,
bingo games, golf games, and re
freshments.
