The bride, who entered with her
brother, Manly Mathews, was at
tended by Mrs. Michael Garbach,
of Charlotte, N. C., as matron of
honor. Mr. Garbach was the
groom’s best man, and the ushers
were John Sullivan, John Glover,
Clifford Snyder and Richard Han-
kinson.
Mr. Stovall is the son of Mrs
Edmund Keener Stovall, of Los
Angeles.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Mother Car-
melita, Provincial Superior of the
Sisters of St. Joseph of Caronde-
let in Georgia, made her official
visit to Mout St. Joseph Academy
here, and after testing the pupils,
expressed satisfaction at their
proficiency in geography, history,
mathematics, English and Latin.
Members of the senior and jun
ior classes were privileged re
cently to attend an inspiring and
spiritually profitable ‘‘Day of
Recollection,” conducted by Fa
ther Joseph A. Curtin, O. M. I.,
of the Oblate Mission House in
Douglas.
Sister Dorothea, of the Sisters
of Our Lady of Christian Doc
trine, delivered an informal ad
dress to the students at Mount
St. Joseph on the social service
work that is being done by the
members of that Order at the
Horse Creek Valley Handicraft
and Welfare Center, on U. S.
Highway No. 1, between Augusta
and Aiken, S. C. The students
made a donation to Sister Doro
thea and promised to contribute
to a milk fund for the welfare
center.
Judge Gordon W. Chambers, of
the City Court of Augusta, ad
dressed the Senior American His
tory Class, his subject being the
Constitution of the United States.
At the conclusion of his talk,
members of the class asked a
number of questions which were
answered by Judge Chambers,
who seemed greatly pleased with
the inteacst shown bv his audi
ence.
Miss Gertrude Murray, chief
occupational therapist at Oliver’
General Hospital, gave the stu-
dents a motion-picture illustrated
lecture describing the occupation
al therapy progam at Army hos
pitals. She explained that the
fundamental principle of occupa-
tional therapy is treatment
through activity. Miss Murray, a
graduate of the Sacred Heart
School, Atlanta, also conducted
by the Sisters of St. Joseph of
Carondelet, also attended the
Boston School of Occupational
therapy, Boston, Mass.
Miss Mary Farnces Ward, as
sistant professor of nursing edu
cation at the University of' Geor
gia, spoke to the students on Jan
uary 6 to arouse their interest in
nursing as a profession. Her talk
was in collection with a nation
wide appeal in the current Nurs
ing Recruitment Program. Miss
Ward was introduced by Miss
Miriam Ray, director of nurses
at the University Hospital. Miss
Ray was accompanied by two stu
dent nurses, Miss It. South, who
spoke about the recreational fa
cilities foe nurses at the Univer
sity Hospital, and Miss J. Connor,
who told of the joy the nurse re
ceives from doing her work well.
The students at Mount' St. Jos
eph, through their charity and
sacrifices, are helping to insure
that a worthy young map will re
ceive the training he needs to en
able him to spread the Light of
Faith in missionary fields. They
have obligated themselves to send
a contribution each month to the
Missionary Servants of the Holy
Trinity for the support of Broth
er Kieran, who is studying for
the priesthood.
Another missionary Activity is
saving of cancelled postage
stamps These are being sent to
the Missionary Sisters of the
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in
Shelby, Ohio. Proceeds from the
sale of these stamps will be used
to aid the foreign missions.
Miss Patricia Van Sant and
Miss Marjorie Hewetl were chos
en by the senior class as the stu
dents “most likely to make im
portant contributions to human
progress." They will compete for
two of the four-year college schol
arships and other awards that are
being offered by the Pepsi-Cola'
Scholarship Board.
Miss Peggy McGowan, a fresn-
man, was awarded the second
prize, $50, in the primary divi
sion of an essay contest conduct
ed by Scripto, Inc., of Atlanta
Miss Peggy Morgan, also a fresh
man, received a $5 merit award
in the same contest. Thousands of
students from all parts of Georgia
participated in the contest.
Extension Magazine gave hon
orable mention to Miss Patricia
Van Sant for an article she sub
mitted to that magazine. She was
one of sixty-four girls, from
schools all over the country, to

February Premier of
New Radio Program,
*The Family Theatre’
LOS ANGELES. — (NC) — De
signed to promote a daily family
prayer movement throughout the
United States, a new program,
“Family Theater,” will have its
premiere over a coast-to-coast net
work of the Mutual Broadcasting
System on Thursday, February 13,
af 10 p. m. Eastern Standard
Time, it has been announced
here.
Loretta Young, popular movie
and radio star, "will be featured
in the leading role of the inaugu
ral program. Meredith Wilson,
widely known radio orchestra
leader, is in charge of the music
for the program.
.Guiding spirit behind the pro
grams is the Rev. Patrick Peyton,
C. S. C., founder and director of
the Daily Family Rosary Crusade,
whose headquarters are in Albany,
N. Y. For months, Father Peyton
has been lining up the cream of
Hollywood talent, as well as out
standing stage pud radio stars, for
appearances on the programs.
The purpose of the “Family
Theater,” it was explained, is to
instill the daily family prayer as a
i>asic help to a richer life at home,
at work and at play throughout the
country, and to make the daily
family Rosary a part of Hhe
every-day life" of every Catholic
home.
“Featuring the best talent of
screen and radio the program is
a sample of the great good which
can come from Hollywood,” Fa
ther Peyton said. \

Red Cross seals in each class
room show that the students have
contributed one hundred per cent.
The seventh and eighth grades
make seasonal favors for various
affairs sponsored by the Red
Cross gift box for some child’s
happiness at Christmas.
Interclass basketball games
were played in December. Miss
Marie May was choserf as captain
cf the varsity basketball team,
with Miss Patricia Van Sant as
business manager. The team,
which is coached by Miss Betty
Marriott, which belongs to the
School League of Augusta, open
ed its seasbn on December 19
with a victory over Junior Col
lege, and continued the schedule
by winning five games more in
succession before suffering a de
feat.
The Mount St. Joseph Glee
Club has been reorganized under
(he direction of Mrs. Bertha Pen
dleton Walker. Officers of the
club are Miss Patricia Franklin,
president; Miss Katherine Mar
riott, secretary. The club expects
to present a musical playlet in the
spring.
DR. IIARLLEE BORDEAUX,
general secretary of the American
Council of Christian Churches,
which includes 3,000 Protestant
congregations in all sections of
the United States, declared in an
interview in New York that he
thoroughly endorsed recently
published statements of Catholic
priests and lay groups condemn
ing a proposed bill to legalize eu
thanasia in New York State.
