VINCENT ANCONITANO
FUNERAL IN SAVANNANH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Vincent Anconitano, who
died on September 30, at a vet
erans’ hospital in Columbia, S. C„
following an extended illness, were
held at the Sacred Heart Church
here.
One of the finest cooks of Ital
ian food in Savannah, Mr. Anconi
tano worked for a number of
years with local hotels and res
taurants, and operated cafes him
self during his career here.
While watching the parade on
St. Patrick’s Day last March, Mr.
Anconitano suffered an attcak, and
since April has been a patient at
the veterans’ hospital in Columbia.
A native of Italy, he lived in
Buffalo, N. Y„ before coming to
Savannah. During World War II
he served with the U. S. Army.
Survivors include a daughter,
Miss Rose Marie Anconitano, of
Las Vegas, N. M., and a brother,
Frank Anconitano, of Buffalo.

lumbus Day banquet and ball held
at the Hotel Dc Soto.
The speakers at the banquet
were Father F. D. Sullivan, S. J..
pastor of the Sacred Heart Church,
in Augusta, and John F. Martin,
member of the Supreme Board of
Directors of the K. of C., and for
mer mayor of Oklahoma City.

Knights of Columbus, acted as
toastmaster. The invocation was
offered by Monsignor T. James Mc
Namara and the blessing was given
by Father Robert Brennan, O. S.

David S. Atkinson, Howell Cone,
collector of Ihe port; lferschcl V.
Jenkins, publisher of The Savan
nah Morning News and Evening
Press, and Soliictor General A. J.
Ryan.
The musical program featured
vocal selections by Miss Erin
Aru n. Miss Frieda Hill and
Thoma. Fahey. Mrs. Lillian Smith
was accompanist for Miss Anion,
while Miss Patricia Bnrragan ac
companied Ihe other singers.

Cosgrove. lawyer and president
of the Hibernian Mutual Insurance
Company, died on October 1, fol
lowing a heart attack. Funeral ser
vices were held at St. Joseph’s
Church with Father J. Alexis West-
bury offiicating.
Engaged in the practice of law
in Charleston since 1919, Mr. Cos
grove at one time served as acting
associate justice of the Supreme
Court of South Carolina. He was
accorded a number of honors in
his profession, including being
named president of Hie Charleston
Bar Association and president of
the South Carolina Bar Associa
tion.
He was also vice-president of
Ihe Logan-Robinson Fertilizer
Company, and until recently was
a member of the city school board.
Born in Charleston, December
22, 1888, he was the son of James
Cosgrove and Mrs. Mary A. Cos
grove. His father, a native of Ire
land, came to Charleston in 1840.
His mother was a native of the
city.
Mr. Cosgrove was- a graduate
of the College of Charleston and
received his bachelor of law de
gree at the Georgetown University
School of Law, in Washington, D.
C.
Soon after his return to Charles-
ton, he was admitted to member
ship in the law firm of Logan and
Grace, his partners being W. Tur
ner Logan, former member of
Congress, and John F. Grace, twice
mayor of Charleston.
He served as corporation coun
sel for Ihe City of Charleston, and
at the time of his death was coun
sel for thfe Charleston County
hoard of commissioners.
For a time he was associated in
the practice of law with Nathan
Rosen, now county master of
equity, and later formed a partner
ship wilh Frank If. Bailey.
He was a member of the Four-
Minute Men during World W-ar I,
and made numerous public appear
ances on behalf of patriotic and
welfare activities, including the
Liberty Loan campaigns.
He was an active member of the
Hibernian Society, and has served
as its president
Mr. Cosgrove was a past grand
knight of Bishop P. N. Lynch
Council, Knights of Columbus, and
an active member of flic Hibernian
Society, in which he had held the
office of president.
Mr. Cosgrove is survived by his
wife, the former Miss Genevieve
Connor; two daughters, Mrs. Fran
cis M. Fitzgerald, of Charlotte, and
Mrs. Walter A. Kenken, Jr., of
Charleston; two brothers, Leon
Cosgrove and. Frank Cosgrove, and
two grandchildren.

ficers of the senior class, Miss
Dolores Kennedy, president; Miss

The annual “Sacre Coeur” staff
will include Miss Margaret Wilson,
editor; Miss Dolores Hooks, busi
ness manager; Miss Dolores Ken
nedy, advertising manager; Miss
Carolyn Smith, circulation man
ager; Miss Janet Wilcoxon, picture
editor, and Miss Marilyn White,
art editor. The staff of “The Live
Wire,” student publication, will be
