MARIAN YEAR
PROGRAM AT
SACRED HEART
On the evening of December 6,
at 8 o’clock, the Student body of
Sacred Heart Jr. College present
ed a Marian year assembly pro
gram honoring Our Blessed Moth
er, in the auditorium. The Marian
year ending on December 8, it
is their hope that devotion to
Our Lady was spread to those
present and that in the few re
maining days many indulgences
and graces were gained.
The setting was most beauti
ful and inspiring, centering
around Our Lady’s statue.
“Mary Our Model,” was pre
sented by Kathryn Strother, “St.
Dominic and The Origin of the
Rosary”, by Jean Foushee, “Story
of Lourdes”, by Norma Lee Can
non, “Father Peyton and Devo
tion to the Family?. Rosary,” by
Yvonne Torres, and th£ “Story of
Fatima”, by Rose Marie Beshere.
“The Magnificat” was recited by
the group.
The entire group sang hymns
to Our Lady. The hymns were:
“O Most Holy One”, “Star of the
Sea”, “Hail Holy Queen” and the
curtain was closed on the singing
of Ave Maria.
Those in charge of staging were
Shirley Long, Dolores Hoover,
Esther Marus. Programs: Yvonne
Torres.
Concluding the program was a
movie on “The Story of The
Miraculous Medal” produced by
the Sister of Charity in Emmits-
burg, Maryland.

Protestant representatives in
Colombia who spread charges of
“religious persecution” through
their “Reports” made fundamen
tal errors in compiling so-called
cases of persecution.
First, they accepted any infor
mation from individual without
really verifying it.
Second, they deliberately ex
cluded all information from other
side.
It was certainly not wrong to
collect information. In an in
vestigation all data, especially
declarations of the offended
party, are very necessary for a
proper judgment.
The mistake in making a
final judgment on partial infor
mation as if it were the entire
and irrefutable truth. The con
viction that this information is
irrefutable seems to be evident
n the way the secretariate of the
Evangelical Confederation in Col
ombia put it into English and
sent it abroad for immediate re
lease.
The secretariate told a world
wide audience a tale of horrible
crimes as if the partial concept
they had formed were a “death
sentence” without appeal.

the Evangelical “Reports” are,
here follow some Evangelical re
ports and then findings on the
same cases by a Catholic com
mittee.
The Evangelical report, Bul
letin 12, Nov. 30, 1953:
“In Molinero (Atlantico Dept.)
the newly constructed Protestant
church was destroyed by a
dynamite bomb at midnigh, Au
gust 28, 1953. Financial loss to
the congregation is about 5,000
pesos. The side walls and roof
were completely destroyed and
the church will have to be re
built.
“Threats of bombing had cir
culated for some time, but the
church members went ahead with
the construction. There 'were no M
witnesses to the bombing, though &'
the caretaker’s family, living at g
same lot, heard the explosion and |J
subsequent collapse of the struc-! W
ture. I B
“The attack was reported the j §)
next day to .Sr. Diaz, judge of the I ||
first court in the municipal, seat !
of Sabanalarga, and an investiga- ! J*
tion ordered. To date no action | If
has been taken and Sr. Diaz re-j g
fuses to disquss the case with
church members.
“Photographs of the ruins, en
closed herewith for the principal
news agencies, are available to
others on request.”
Here’s the report received by
the Catholic committee from
Bishop Francesco Gallego Perez
of Barranquilia?
“The chapel in question was
built without a strong founda
tion. During the night of August |
28, one of the side walls collapsed | ||
and as a consequence the roof
also came down and fell into the
building.
“The civil authorities at Sa
banalarga made an on-the-spot
investigation through a conscien
tious and experienced engineer,
who with two construction fore-
17 niversity of j building materials. They agreed
unanimously that the collapse
was due to faulty construction. . .
I guarantee that the above in
formation is the complete truth.”
Evangelical Report, Bulletin 4,
May-June 1952:
“The city of Barrancabermeja,
Department of Santander, was in
the midst of preparation to re
ceive the National Peace Commit
tee . . .
“The priest. Father Victor
Grillo, told the children to stone
the church of the Protestants. For
about 15 rninutefe the children in
the procession threw rocks and
stones at the building ...
“Sunday night, May 25, the
National Peace Committee ended
its visit in Barrancabermeja with
a mass meeting of all citizens in
the public square, half a block
from the Protestant church. Dur
ing this public demonstration the
priests shouted over the loud
speakers: ‘Down with the Protes
tants-’, and the people shouted
“It is false to affirm that Fath
er Victor Grillo ordered stones to
be thrown. It is true that several
children following the procession
threw stones. But they did so on
their own, for about three mi
nutes, until the priest could get
out of the procession and stop
them . . .
“There was a Catholic gather
ing of-about 2,500 to 3,000 in the
park. All these people can testify
that the speakers, Sr. Duque Vil
legas, Father Luis Carlos Ramir
ez, did not shout: ‘Down with the
Protestants!’ They spoke over
loudspeakers, but did not men
tion the Protestants at all.”
The Nativity gave to artists the
perfect combination of the essen
tials of all true art: Spirit and
Matter. The aspiration of artists
of all times has been to show
the resplendence of the Son of
God permeating and emanating
from their conception of the Holy
Infant.
