Cheery Christmas Greetings
710 Broad Street Augusta, Ga.
President’s
Monthly Message
It seems but yesterday that I
sent you my first message, and
now, this is my last. I want you
to know how very much I have
enjoyed knowing all the fine
women in our vast N.C.C.W.,
federation. And I wish to say
thank you to each one of you for
the splendid response that you
have given to every appeal that
has been made to you, whether
for material help for those who
have suffered the bitter trials of
war, or prayers for those deprived
of the spiritual consolations
which we in America are so bless
ed to receive, or whether for that
sacrifice which may be the great
est of all—the giving of time
and energy to study and work
in solving the social problems
of our communities.
You will go on to even greater
achievements. Of this I am sure,
for Catholic women are in the
vanguard of every effort for soci
al betterment. As this high office
goes from me to another whom
you have chosen from our ranks,
I ask for her the unfailing loyal
ty you have given so generously.
My best wishes to you in the
work, and may our Lady of Good
Cousel guide you always.

Our Thoughts of You!
We finally found the happy words
that will our thoughts convey;
And draw this pic of old St. Nick,
his reindeer and his sleigh.
We loaded down our Santa Claus
with words for him to say.
And told him to deliver them
to you on Christmas Day.
Among these words are "Season's," "Yule,"
and oh, there's "Happy," too.
But best of all we think is this:
"Merry Christmas, Friends, To You"!
SACRED HEART HAS
CHRISTMAS PARTY
SAVANNAH, Ga. — At the
meeting of the Sacred Heart
Home and School Association,
plans were made for the annual
Christmas party, which will be
held Dec. 23. Mrs. J. Flynn, and
Mrs. W. J. Crump are co-chair
men. The seventh grade mothers
will place a manger in the en
trance hall where carols and
hymns will be sung. Santa Claus
will distribute ice cream, cook
ies, and candy in each classroom.
Mothers of the eighth grade
pupils will trim a tree and deco
rate the lunchroom.
During the meeting plans were
discussed for a series of Friday
night dances and a Christmas
dance to be given for the seventh
and eighth grade pupils. It was
announced that mothers of the
third grade pupils will serve
lunches during this month; and in
January fourth grade mothers
will serve. Mrs. Willie White and
Mrs. B. Lowenthal will be co-

Catholic Women, which was held
in Boston.
The attendance prize was
awarded to the eighth grade.

Medical Society
CHICAGO, (NO—Father. Ger
ard G. Grant, S. J., assistant pro
fessor of philosophy at Loyola Un
iversity here, has criticized the
American Medical Association for
not facing the moral issues con
cerning artificial insemination
After discussing artificial in
semination on a TV show, Father
Grant expressed his views in an
interview. He said:
‘‘The official medical journals
have shied away from an expres
sion on the morality of artificial
insemination. The Americal Med
ical Association has, not been
courageous in facing these moral
issues.”
Father Grant charged that be
cause the AMA has not laid down
the moral law to its members on
the issue, some doctors have flag
rantly abused the powers of arti
ficial insemination.
He defined artificial insemina
tion as “another name for an old,
old-fashioned crime called adul
tery.” He said the Catholic Church
has “explicitly condemned” the
practice since the first Papal edict;
on the subject was published ir.
1879.
According to Father Grant, in
1949 His Holiness Pope Pius XL.
termed artificial insemination “a
gravely immoral violation of the
marriage bond” and termed the
product of such union “illigiti
mate.”
The Jesuit educator admitted,
that the legal definition of arti
ficial insemination is “confused.”
The courts of England, Canada
and France have viewed the prac
tice of artificial insemination ad
adulterous, he added, while only
; a New York Supreme Court de
I cision of 1918 held differently. So
j called test tube babies have figur -
}.ed in two divorce actions here ir.
which mothers demanded sola
custody of the children. One moth
er demanded she be declared Aha
sole parent.
“Any doctor who participates in
this will have to face a gravti
moral responsibility,” Father
Grant said. “The,doctor is procur
ing a partner for a woman in ex
tramarital relations. And we havi
some nasty terms for that in lilt:
English language.
“It is not wrong only for Cain
olics, but wrong for all people
The Catholic Church enunci
ates only Catholic morality, buc i i
is based on God’s word.

Poor Example
Set By Adults
Priest Says
LAFAYETTE, La., (NCI—The
despiritualized examples set by
today’s adult generation has
smashed the faith of young peo
ple in the, ability of adults to
lead, a priest said here.
Adults are fololwing “diluted”
principles, Msgr. Irving DeBlanc,’
chaplain at the Catholic Student
Center of Southwestern Louisiana
Institute, remarked in speaking
to members of a-civic club here.
There is no foundation to the
time-worn adage “save the youth
and you save the world,” Father
DeBlanc said.
“Before adults can save any
body else, they must save them
selves. Let the children know you
believe in the truth and they will
believe. Be honest with them,”
he urged his audience.
