IMMACULATE CONCEPTION HOLY NAME
GROUP ELECTS OFFICERS FOR 1955
ATLANTA, Ga. — It doesn’t
seem possible that 1954 has run
its course and become another
year in history. A new year is
upon us, with all its mystery and
uncertainty as to what the future
has in store. Before we embark
upon 1955, we can’t let the year
1954 take its place in the past
without a fitting benediction. The
Holy Name Society at the Shrine
of the Immaculate Conception, At
lanta. at the December breakfast
meeting did not schedule a guest
speaker—instead the time was de
voted to completing the business
for 1954. and taking time to count
our many blessings. It was a good
year for the Society, as much
progress was made.
Our beloved Pastor. Monsignor
Grady, highlighted the occasion
with his usual charm and wel
comed words. A portion of his
talk was devoted to the recent
Solemn Pontifical Mass, celebrat
ed by the Archbishop—the Most
Reverend Gerald P. O’Hara, D. D.,

J. U. D., on Wednesday, DeCerrh
ber 8th, observing the solemn
closing of the Marian Year in our
venerable* old church. The good
Mor.signor thanked all those and
there were many, who had a part
in this outstanding event.
Monsignor Grady also express
ed his appreciation to the Holy
Name members for their ever wil
lingness to lend a hand and for
the many projects sponsored by
the society for the betterment of
the church. The latest achieve
ment resulted in the recent light
ing of the new window over the
church entrance. A battery of spot
lights have been installed illumi
nating this beautiful stained glass
window which has attracted con
siderable attention. Some evening
drive by the Shrine of the Im
maculate Conception and let your
eyes see what words cannot ex
plain. Another recent addition to
the church, through the courtesy
of the Holy Name Society, was
the installation of a mike and
public address system in the so
cial hall.
December completed an out
standing year for the Society un
der the capable guidance of Bill
Goodwin. The retiring president
expressed his gratitude for the co
operation extended him during-
his tenure. He did not elaborate
on his accomplishments, he didn’t
need to—all of us realize the work
and effort he put forth and we
are grateful. Mr. Dooley, on be
half of the Society, presented Bill
a pen and pencil set as a small
token of our appreciation. Sets
were also given to the other re
tiring officers, Bill Carman, vice
president: Eddie Troy, secretary:
Bob Lyle, Treasurer, and J. Alton
Baumgartner, publicity chairman,
who served with Bill Goodwin the
past year. Congratulations, fel
lows, on a job well done.
Gifts were also presented the
good ladies who faithfully gave
of their time that we may enjoy
delicious breakfasts at our meet
ings.
A special gift was presented
Charlie Maloof for outstanding
work, not only during the year
just ended, but his ever willing
ness to accept responsibility, per
form any task well and his, con
stant efforts for the Society’s bet
terment.
As is customary at the Decem
ber meeting, new officers were
elected by the members to be in

“The spreading of wild rumors
obviously fits perfectly into the
policy of the present Hungarian
communist government.”
Persistent reports and rumors
continue to reach Vienna stating.,
that the Cardinal has been grant
ed some sort of release from!
prison.
One report states that Arch
bishop Julius Czapik of Eger, act
ing chairman of the Hungarian,
hierarchy, has informed the Hun
garian Bishops that the govern
ment “has lifted certain meas
ures imposed upon Cardinal.
Mindszenty’s personal freedom,
and the Primate of Hungary has
been allowed a limited freedom
of movement.”
Another report states that the
Cardinal’s mother and Archbishop {
Czapik were on hand when a.
representative of the Hungarian]
government informed the Car-|
dinal of the government’s deci.-]
sion to free him.
The Cardinal is reported tc
have taken the announcement!
with indifference and to h&vel
maintained a stubborn silence.!
The Cardinal is described as hav-l
ing aged considerably during his I
six years of imprisonment and to [
have lost his vigor.

Various reports confirmed
while the Pope is not yet con-

definitely making progress along
the path of recovery. He has con

for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical
Affairs, and Msgr. Angelo Dell j

Daily automobile rides andl
short walks in the Vatican!

regular feature of the Pope's con

stressed that recovery will be un-1
