John A. Pierce
Receives Degree
SAVANNAH, Ga. — On May
24th at Spring Hill College,
Mobile, Alabama, Cadet Lt. Col.
John A. Pierce of Savannah re
ceived his A.B. degree. Awards
conferred on him at graduation
were: a citation for leadership
achievement, 1951 - 1955, the Al
len Medal for excellence in de
portment, and the ROTC award
for being the outstanding senior
cadet. Young Pierce was among
the .graduates, senior cadets of
the Army ROTC Unit of Spring
Hill College who were sworn in
as second lieutenants in the U. S.
Army; he is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. A. E. Pierce, 103 East Vic
tory Drive, and a graduate of
Benedictine Military Academy.

Blessed Sacrament
SAVANNAH, Ga.—On Friday,
June 3rd at the 8 o’clock Mass
41 pupils were graduated from
Blessed Sacrament School. In a
brief address the Rev. Thomas A.
Brennan, pastor, reminded the
children of their religious obliga
tions during the summer.

erage of the eighth grade boys,
a scholarship to Benedictine Mili
tary School was awarded to
George Ruehling.
First and third state prizes in
an Irish History Contest sponsor
ed by the Ladies Auxiliary of the
Ancient Order of Hibernians on
the subject “Commodore John
Barry, Father of the American
Navy,” were awarded to Mickey
Hartnett, eighth grade, and Lo
retta Powers, seventh grade.
: The city-wide and state prizes
in an essay contest sponsored by
the D. C. C. W. on the subject
“Why We Need More Religious
Vocations,” were awarded to Nan
cy Pruitt of the seventh grade.
Graduation exercises closed
with Benediction of the Most
Blessed Sacrament.
The isolated efforts of each one
of you have little effect. If you’re
united by the charity of Christ
you’ll marvel at their efficacy.
