GOD, A WOMAN AND THE
WAY, by Rev. M. Raymond,
O.C.S.O., illustrated by John An
drews, (Bruce), $3.50
(Reviewed by Mary Cox)
Leave it to the Trappists to
write today the things that make
the most sense. Far away from
the world in the deep silence of
their monasteries they would
speak forth loudly to the world
with the persepctive of near
angels. And Father Raymond,
one of their greatest message-
bearers, would have the 20th
Century REMEMBER Mary —
would have us REMEMBER her
Seven Dolors in order that we
might draw closer to her Son.
Alongside s|e v e n profound
scraped ink drawings by John
Andrews, depicting the seven
sorrows of Mary, Father Ray
mond presents seven medita
tions, ail drenched with Mario-
logy. He writes, Christ’s life on
earth was the first Mass, Calva
ry its consecration. Mary shar
ed His life, passion and death. It
was her COM-PASSION. She is
the Co-redemptrix. Since He
gave her to us as our Mother, we
are her children and each of us
is 1 a member of His Mystical
Body. The Mass continues
throughout the centuries in the
Mystical Body; therefore, our
lives can become nothing other
than a Mass and ourselves oth
er Christs. Father Raymond
would have us NOT FORGET
Mary’s role as Co-redemptrix
and our role in the Mystical
Body, which fact makes our lives
the divine adventure it must be
today. From Simeon’s prophecy
to Christ’s silent, sealed tomb,
we are shown Mary’s sufferings.
Each page becomes a prayer for
her scorners and a song of hope
for her children.

LIFE IS WORTH LIVING, by
Fulton J. Sheen, (Garden City),
$1.49, a reprint.
(Reviewed by Virginia Math
ews).
If you are lamenting the ab
sence of Bishop Sheen from the
video screen these summer
months, here is a chance to re
new your acquaintances with the
original “Life Is Worth Living”
series which has recently been
reprinted.
In response to the demands of
his many listeners, the first year’s
telecasts were transcribed into
book form. Only one change was
rffade. The author, “in deference
to the good taste of the readers,
was reluctant to perpetuate his
abominable drawings on the
blackboard,” so a friend redid
them and added a sketch of the
famous but elusive “angel.”
In . his book, Bishop Sheen has
fulfilled the public’s need for a
“reasoned presentation of a se
rious idea.” The 26 essays have a
wide range of appeal. Such perti
nent problems as the make-up of
teen-agers, what is fatigue, the
hows of character building, and
(Continued on Page Twenty)
The finding of the Child Jesus is used by artist John Andrews to illus
trate the third dolor, The Loss of the Child Jesus, in God, A Woman, and
the Way, by Father Raymond, O.C.S.O. He likens Mary’s loss to the
horror of life without Christ. The joy of the recovery suggests the agony
of the three-day search — in which Mar' suffered as one who is in mortal
sin, since she had lost Christ. Bruce is the publisher.
