(Brunswick News)
BRUNSWICK, Ga.—The Rev.
Thomas Davenport, pastor of a
Catholic Church at Bunker Hill,
111., received a suprjse Saturday
when he paid his first visit to
Brunswick, the home of his fath
er, Thomas Davenport, Sr., who
moved to Chicago around the
beginning of the century.
Looking for*the home of his
aunt, Mrs. C. L. Davenport, St.
Simons Island, he went to the
rectory of St. Francis Xavier
Church here to inquire direc
tions.
The priest who came to the
door was the Rev. -James Cum
mings, who had arrived a few
days earlier to become pastor
here.
They quickly recognized one
another as high school mates at
Chicago, They had not met since
then, nearly 25 years ago, and
did not know the other had be
come a priest.
Father Davenport celebrated
Masses yesterday at St. William’s
Chapel and left today for Flori
da on a vacation trip.
