Bacon was elected grand knight
at a recent meeting of Albany
Council 3607, Knights of Colum
bus, for the ensuing year.
Dr. Bacon was born in Albany
and attended local schools, tie at
tended St. Bernard’s College and
graduated from St. Louis Univer
sity School of Dentistry in 1952.
He was a member of Sigma
Beta Kappa fraternity, Delta Sig
ma Delta fraternity, the honorary
Jesuit fraternity of Alpha Sigma
Nu, the honorary dental fratern
ity of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and
is now a member of the American
Dental and Georgia Dental Asso
ciations and the Dougherty Coun
ty Kiwanis Club.
Dr. Bacon served with the U. S.
Navy Dental Corps from 1952 to
1954 and is now practicing in Al
bany.

Deri Chief Paul Pallona was
presented a letter of apprecia
tion for his services during the
past year. Paul will leave soon
with his parents, Warrant Of
ficer and Mrs. Pallona, for his
father’s new overseas assign
ment. Recognition also was given
to all Cubs for their outstanding
work in the pack’s recent coat
hanger drive to raise funds for
its treasury. It was pointed out
that the Cubs collected 10,000
coat hangers which have been
purchased by a local laundry.

Albany Assembly
Elects Officers
The Albany Assembly, * 4th
Degree, Knights of Columbus,
elected officers recently for the
ensuing year. Sir Knight George
W. Hughey, Jr;, was elected
Faithful Navigator with the fol
lowing officers: Friar, Rev. Dani
el J. Bourke, Faithful Captain,
John H. Ross, Faithful Pilot, C.
R. Shoemakei', Faithful Admiral,
John Wolf, Faithful Comtroller,

Sir Knight Leslie C. Cahill,
retiring Faithful Navigator, gave
a report on the recent Conven
tion held at Radium Springs and
the. Assembly heard regular
committee reports.
Sir Knight George W. Hughey,
Jr., was Charter Grand Knight
of Albany Council 3607, Knights
of Columbus, and will be serving
as District Deputy under state
Deputy Nick Camerio of Macon,
Ga.

TROOP 83
WARNER ROBINS — Girl
Scout Troop 83, sponsored by
the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church here, held its annual
Court of Awards recently at the
Scout house.
Following the program, a pic
nic dinner cooked by the troop
members was served on the
Scout house grounds.
Awards were presented in a
candlelight service conducted by
the troop leader, Mrs. Joe Dem
bowski, and co-leader, Mrs. Ber
nard Lawler. Troop members re
ceiving first class badges and
proficiency awards were Mary
Mann and Mary Ann Dem
bowski.
Second class and proficiency
badges went to Anne Lewis,
Patricia Duckworth, Susan Law
ler, Janice White and Maribeth
Reilly. Receiving' second class
emblems were Kay Neet, Diana
Dodson, Donna Clevenger and
Joan Dembowski. Also receiving
proficiency awards were Mary
Ann Lawler, Patty Evans, Sara
Lou Dauby and Adfianne San
ders.

Altar Society
THOMASVILLE, Ga.—The reg
ular meeting of the St. Augus
tine’s Altar Society and N. C. C.
W. was held June 4 at the Friary.
Father Gerard opened tije meet
ing with prayer.
Mrs. John Hashagen gave a
comprehensive report on Convert
Makers of America and the work
they are doing. She asked the
members to make a spiritual
bouquet to be presented to the
Holy Father.
The president pointed out the
special feast days in June and
urged all to attend Mass and Com
munion.
A parish picnic was held June
20 at the Coats amjl Clark recre
ation building.
Father Gerard spoke briefly on
St. Margaret Mary and the brevi
ary, which contains the daily of
fices and prayers said by a priest.
The meeting was closed with
prayer by Father Gerard. A social
hour followed.

WARNER ROBINS—The Rev.
John Schroeder, S.J., member of
the Southern Jesuit Mission
Band, recently conducted a 6-day
mission at the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church here.
Father Schroeder’s sermons
were on the basic principles of
marriage and family life, juve
nile delinquency, and other in
teresting subjects.
A native of Atlanta, Father
Schroeder is an alumnus of
Notre Dame University.
