ot Atlanta participated actively
in Catholic Youth Week. At the
suggestion of the National Cath
olic Youth Conference, October
28 to November 4 had been de
signated as dedicated to Catholic
Youth.
The Sodality of Our Blessed
Lady, under the direction of Rev.
Michael Kerwick, S.M., sponsored
the program. Events were plan
ned to take place each day of the
school week.
Oh the first three days of the
week, there were special Masses
in the Sacred Heart Church. The
Mass each day was a project of
one or more of the classes. The
cadets agreed to attend at least
the Mass of their class and receive
Holy Communion on that day.
The students, however, did not
limit themselves to attendance at
only their own special Mass.
Captain E. O. Mullen of the
Atlanta Police Department ad
dressed the students on Monday,
October 29. The Captain issued a
challenge to. Catholic youth. He
outlined to them the necessity of
responsibility. He stressed the im
portance of good example. He
concluded with the words: “The
theme of this week is ‘Trust in
Youth.’ We want to trust in youth.
We have to. For on them falls the
responsibilities that now rest on
adult shoulders. We want youth
to trust in us. But if we are to
trust in youth, we must be certain

that that trust is well placed. We

has trust in God.”
A Living Rosary and Youth

October 31. At that time four
student speakers accepted Captain

speakers were Lt. Col. Paul Mark-

Youth Week was climaxed by a
Memorial Mass on All Souls’
Day, November 2. A Requiem
Mass was sung by Reverend Wil
liam A. Maguire, S.M., Assistant
Principal at Marist. The Mass was
offered for all deceased alumni,
teachers, and benefactors of Mar
ist. The Schola, under the direc
tion of P t ev. Joseph McManus,
S.M., .sang the Proper and the
responses.
The celebration of Catholic
Youth Week is but one of the
many religious activities sponsor
ed by the Marist Sodality. Two
other notable features that have
caused favorable comment are
the voluntary Rosary each week.
The fact that the church is well
filled during the students’ own
after school time for the recita
tion of the Rosary is an evidence
of the students’ devotion. The
other voluntary program, also well
attended, is the Communion Mass
jon the first Saturday of the
month.
