tolic Letter, transferring Bishop
McDonough to Savannah. Then,
following the reading of the Apos
tolic Letter in both Latin and
English, Bishop McDonough will
be escorted to the throne by the
Archbishop of Baltimore and the
Right Reverend Monsignor Jos
eph E. Moylan, P. A., Vicar Gen
eral of the Diocese of Savannah.
This having been done. Monsignor
Moylan will go to the pulpit to
address words of welcome to Bish
op McDonough. Immediately then,
following vesting, Bishop Mc
Donough will begin Mass. At the
end of Mass, Bishop McDonough
will address the assemblage.
Music for the: Mass will be
sung by the Cathedral James B.
Copps Memorial Choir, directed
by Mr. E., J. Deacy, Choirmaster,
assisted by Mrs. Joseph C.
Schreck, organists.
Following the Pontifical Mass,
Bishop McDonough will be host
at dinner to the visiting Arch
bishops, Bishops and Abbots.
Likewise, following the Mass, in
the cafeteria of the Cathedral Day
School there will be a buffet sup
per for the visiting clergy.
The following day, February 21,
at 8:30 o’clock in the evening in
the Ball Roorb of the DeSoto Ho
tel, there will be the Civic Re
ception. Presiding at this recep
tion will be Mr. A. J. Schano,

mittees; An address of Welcome
will be made by the Honorable W.
Lee Mingledorff, Jr., Mayor of
Savannah; followed by Addresses
of Welcome on the part of the
Laity of the Diocese, given by
Mrs. Robert E. McCormack, Pres
ident of the Diocesan Council of
Catholic Women and The Honor
able W. Kirk Sutlive, ex-officio
Judge of Chatham County and
member of the Chatham Couny
Board of Commissioners and Co-
Chairman of The Bishop’s Cru
sade. Then will follow the intro
duction of His Excellency by the
Right Reverend Monsignor T.
James McNamara and the Res
ponse by Bishop McDonough. Aft
er this short speaking program
the Reception Line will form and
the Bishop will greet his people
individually.

ers are handling the details of
the Reception and Presentation of
Bishop McDonough:

here Feb. 29-21 were announced
yesterday.
Heading up the committee is
Judge James P, Houlihan, K.S.G.,
as honorary chairman, and A. J.
Schano as general chairman.

Augusta 4th Degree To
Hear General Hickey
AUGUSTA — Lieutenant Gen
eral Thomas Francis Hickey,
Third United States Army Com
mander, will be the principal
speaker at the annual Washing
ton Day dinner and dance of the
4th degree, Patrick Walsh As
sembly, Knights of Columbus, on
Friday February 22.
The Golden Camp Inn on

sembly. The dinner will begin at
7:30 p.m.
General Hickey, one of the best
known speakers in the south, is
native of South Boston, Massa
chusetts. Hg enlisted as a private
in the Infantry in 1916. As a' Sec
ond Lieutenant in the Cavalry he
fought with the 89th Division in
the St. Mihiel and Meuse Argonne
offensives in World War I. Dur
ing World War II he served as
Chief of Staff, X Corps, in the
Southwest Pacific Area and later
commanded the 31st Infantry
(Dixie) Division Artillery at Mo-
rotai and during the Mindanao
Campaign. In Oct. 1946 he became
Chief of Staff of U.S. Forces in
Austria at Vienna under General
Mark Clark. A qualified para
chutist, in Oct. 1950 he assumed
command of the 82 Airborne Di
vision at Fort Bragg, N. C., and
of the XVIII Airborne Corps,
with the additional duty of com
manding general of the Fort.
After a tour of duty as com
manding general of IX Corps
group in Korea, and assistant
commanding general of U. S.
forces in the Far East and the
8th Army in Japan, he was ap
pointed Commanding General of
the Third Army, his present com
mand.
A daily Communicant, General
Hickey has been a sterling ex
ample of Catholic Action to his
family and the officers and men
under his charge. His is a breadth
of vision, an attention to duty, a
willingness to learn, a regard for
schooling as a solemn obligation
in order to serve his country to
the heights of his ability. Honors
have come, richly deserved but
unheralded: a 4th degree K. of C.,
Distinguished Service. Medal, the
Purple Heart, Knight-Commander
of the Holy Sepulchre and of
Saint Gregory among others.
General Hickey will be intro- !
duced by Chaplain (Captain) La-
salle E. Lenk, a member of the
local Assembly and a Catholic
Chaplain at Fort Gordon.
A cordial invitation is extended
to all persons, whether or not
members of the Knights of Col
umbus, to attend the dinner and
dance. Reservations must be
made not later than Feb. 19 with
either of the following: Eugene A.
Mahon, DeWeen Fourcher, Wil
liam Faughnan, Harry Best, Lt.
Col. Robt. Henry, Maj. Cullen, or
Maj. Cavanaugh. Members, of the 1
4th degree and their ladies will
wear formal attire. Dress for
guests is optional.
