Serra President
ATLANTA—The Holy Name
Society of the Shrine of the Im
maculate Conception received
Holy Communion on April 14. A
very, large number of men were
present and afterwards were
served a delicious breakfast. Sev
eral fine prizes were given to en
courage more men to attend the
breakfasts and short business
meetings. A baseball glove was
given to one of the Junior boys
to urge them to come and be
with us.
Monsignor O’Connor was able
only to speak a few words to us
as he had an invitation to St.
Anthony’s Parish to address the
Holy Name men.
Mr. Lawrence J. LaBonte of
the St. Thomas Moore Parish and
president of the Serra Club, was
our guest speaker. He gave us a
wonderful talk about the Serra
Club telling us it was founded in
Seattle, Washington, in 1935 for
the purpose of bringing more in-
learn from one another to bring
their work to greater perfection.
It is true that a good number of
the priests who attend the Con
ventions of the Outdoor Aposto
late are engaged in actual street
preaching as such, but the Apos
tolate itself covers a broader
field, including radio and tele
vision work, trailer chapels, ex
hibits at State Fairs, credit un
ions, tent meetings, etc.
The spirit of the priests who
come together, Dominicans, Pas-
sionists, Jesuits, diocesan priests,
has always been a source of
j inspiration wherever the Conven-
j tions were held. Your prayers are
asked that the Convention to be
held this year will be as success
ful as those in the past.

Each member daily recites pray
ers for vocation. Grace of true,
vocation not given to everyone
but by prayer and teaching more
will enter. It is the duty and ob
ligation of parents to spread the
work of vocation and they would
realize the great joy of the call
of their child to the true vocation.
