At Savannah Convention
URGE PARTICIPATION IN
CONVENTION YOUTH RALLY
SAVANNAH — Young people
•who have finished high school, as
■well as teen-agers, are invited to
participate in- the. Youth Rally
which will be held in Savannah
on May 4-5 in conjunction with
the annual convention of the Sa
vannah Diocesan-Council of Cath
olic Women.
Registration of delegates and
visitors will take place at a special
Youth Rally registration desk in
the lobby of the Hotel DeSoto
from noon to 5 p. m. on Saturday,
May 4. There out-of-town young
people will be met by their hosts
and hostesses.
All youth rally delegates and
visitors are invited to attend the
panel discussion which will be
presented to the Diocesan Con
vention after its opening session,
at approximately 3 p. m. on Sat

ute talk. The Catholic Young
People’s Association will be host
at a dance on Saturday from 8-11
p. m. in the CYPA Building, Aber-
corn and Charlton Streets. Dress
is semi-formal and there is no
charge for the dance. Delegates
and all other young people are
asked to attend the 8 o’clock
Mass at the Cathedral on Sunday,
May 5 at which delegates to the
Diocesan Convention will be in
attendance. Young people are ask
ed to gather in the vestibule of
the cathedral and sit in the re
served section on the Epistle side
of the center aisle.
A communion breakfast will
be served 1 in the main ballroom
of the DeSoto Hotel at 9 a. m.
which all young people are urged
to attend. The cost is $1.00 per
person and tickets may be secured
at the registration desk on Satur
day. Msgr. Joseph Schieder, Na
tional Director of Catholic Youth
of America, will be the speaker
using as his topic, “Are Modern
Youth Ungrateful?”. Most Rev.
Thomas J. McDonough and Mrs.
Robert E. McCormack, Diocesan
president, will be in attendance.
There will be no organized ac
tivities after the Communion
Breakfast so that Youth Rally

Father Harrison
ATLANTA,—The Rev. James L.
Harrison, of the Cathedral of
Christ the King, was the guest
speaker at the April dinner meet
ing of the Atlanta Catholic Club
of Business and Professional Wo
men. Father Harrison described,
in detail, the history of Holy Week
and the Easter Celebration.
Mrs. John S. Correll, vice pres
ident of the new Atlanta Diocesan
Council of Catholic Women (pre
viously the Atlanta Deanery) told
about the new diocesan council.
A roll call of the ladies present
indicated that there was a rep
resentation from every parish in
the Atlanta area, including St.
John the Evangelist, at Hapeville.
It was announced that the club
was the recipient of a bequest
from the will of a former chapter
member, Miss Nora McMahon,
who had been a nurse in World
War I.
Miss Anna L. Barker was chair
man of the hostesses for the meet
ing. Her assistants were: Miss Re
gina Corrigan and Mrs. Mary D.

Msgr. Schieder is the National
Director of Catholic Youth of the
United States. He received his A.
B. degree in 1931 at Niagara Uni
versity; M. A. in 1935 at St. Bon-
aventure University; Ph. D., in
1943 at University of Ottawa;
L. L. D. in 1951 at St. Vincent’s
College . in Latrobe, Penna., and
Litt. D. (hon.) in 1954 at Seaton
Hall University, South Orange,
New Jersey.

Msgr. Schieder has been work
ing with our Catholic youth of
the Uni;ted States, since. 1939',
when he became director of Youth
Retreats in the Diocese of Buffa
lo. Some of his many and varied

the Catholic circles of Savannah,
there is no doubt about the suc
cess of the convention of the Dio
cesan Council of Catholic Women
to be held at the DeSoto Hotel
on May 4th and 5th.

men to be held in Savannah, May
4th and 5th, at the DeSoto Hotel.
Registration begins at 12:00
noon Saturday at the Sull Street
entrance. Opening session will be
held at 2:30 p. m. in the Gold
Room and banquet at 7:30 p. m.
There will be music by Rudolph
Jacobson’s stringed trio during
the banquet. One of the outstand
ing features of this gathering will
be talk by Monsignor Joseph

Names Delegates
For Convention
SAVANNAH — At the April
meeting of the Catholic Women’s
Club, Mrs. Harry Wilson, Mrs.
Alice Buckley, and Miss Margaret
Collins were elected delegates to
represent their organization, at
the 1957 Convention of the Sa
vannah Diocesan Council of
Catholic Women.
The club’s annual corporate
Communion will be held on May
19, at the eight o’clock Mass, at
Blessed Sacrament Church. All
Catholic Women, in Savannah, are
invited to attend.

new members.
