ATLANTA—The Atlanta Dio
cesan Council of Catholic Women
is comprised of seventeen parish
councils and five interparochial
councils. The Diocese of Atlanta
is not divided into deaneries, so
there are no deanery councils.
The affiliated councils are repre
sented on the Diocesan Board of
Directors by the parish council
presidents. The parish commit
tee chairmen work directly under
the diocesan committee chair-
man It is hoped that this closer
contact will result in a closer-knit
Diocesan Lay Apostolate.
The parish council president
appoints chairmen of the com
mittees chosen by the pastor, and
notifies the president of the D.
C. C. W. of these names- and ad
dresses. It is her duty to make
annual reports to the diocesan
council, and to see that all parish
committee work is reported to
the diocesan chairmen.
The diocesan chairman plans
committee programs, using sug
gestions from N. C. C. W., as they
apply to our diocesan needs The
programs are approved by the
diocesan president and the Spirit
ual Moderator before they are
presented to the affiliated groups.
The parish council chairman de
velops the committee program in
the parish. The same holds true
for the interparochial councils
and their committee chairmen.

“FAMILY LIFE IK CHRIST”
(By Linda Anderson)
Editor's note: This is the sec

h e in g presented on this page.
These essays won top honors in

Thirteenth Annual Diocesan
Council’s essay contest. Linda An

Family life in Christ is a beau
tiful thing. It means hurrying
with the dishes in the evening
so that there will be time to say
the Rosary with the whole fam
ily. It means helping your sister
get that difficult arithmetic prob
lem. It means helping your little
sister button her dress or put on
her coat. It means doing every
thing, even little things, for
Christ,
The family is a little church. It
follows that the family represents
Christ in his relation to men.
The Sacrament of Matrimony,
which establishes the family, is
the only Sacrament administered
by the subjects to themselves.
The other Sacraments are means
of Grace to one soul while Mat
rimony is the means of Grace to
a society; man, wife, and the
family.
All families have for their
model the Holy Family. Theirs
was the perfect family. Mary
and Joseph were very humble.
All they wanted was to do God’s
will, All they asked was that God
bestow his blessings and graces
on their humble home. In Jesus
we see a perfect example of obe
dience. He never thought to ques
tion what his parents asked him
to do. He just did as he was told.
Certainly if the Son of God
would be humble enough to obey
his parents and admit their au
thority over Him, we can do so
also. Our parents have the au
thority from Christ himself to
give us orders. We should accept
this fact and consider it our duty
to obey our parents.
How can we model our fami
lies on the Holy Family? The
first thing is, of course, to pray
together. If you try, you can
find time to say the family Ros
ary together in the evening. Re

together stays together.” Second,
how about pitching in and doing
a fair share of the work? You
will find it a lot more fun if you
helped your mother with the
dishes in the evening or put the
baby to bed or helped your sister
with her homework than if your
mother had to do all this. Why
not make your family a family
that works, prays, and plays to
gether?
You will find that this uniting
of husband and wife, of parents
and children, is the deepest
meaning of “Family Life in
Christ.”
