General Hickey
Receives Awards
From Chaplains
FORT McPHERSON — Lieu
tenant-General Thomas F. Hick
ey, Commanding General, Third
U. S. Army, Atlanta, was pre
sented the Distinguished Service
Award by the Atlanta Area Chap
ter of the Military Chaplains As
sociation.
This award has been given to
President Eisenhower, Secretary
of the Army Wilbur -M. Brucker,
and to Secretary of the Navy
Charles S. Thomas.

Meeting Of
St Vrncent
SAVANNAH — Mrs. Miriam
H. Allen, of Allen and Guyer’s
Florist, was guest speaker at the
November meeting of the St. Vin
cent’s Alumnae Association.
Representing the Alumnae at
the meeting of the Savannah
Deanery Council of Catholic Wo
men, on Sunday, December 1, in
Statesboro, were Mrs. Joseph
Winders, president, and Miss
Johanna Daly.
The Alumnae will hold its an
nual Christmas party, on Decem
ber 17. Mrs. Winders is general
chairman. Co-chairmen are Miss
Alida Green, vice president; Miss
Regina Lytgen, treasurer; Mrs. j
Fred Williams, corresponding sec- i
retary; and Miss Virigina Cooley,
recording secretary. The refresh
ment committee are as follows:

Winner In Bibb
County Football
MACON — St. Joseph’s School
won the Bibb County football
championship for small enroll
ment grammar schools by de
feating Alexander III, 13-6, in
Macon’s Pony Bowl Thanksgiving
Day.
Fullback Don Biggs scored both
St. Joseph’s touchdowns, one a
nine-yard pass from Quarterback
Pete Gaines, the other on a 33-
yard run around right end. Biggs
faked a kick and threw to Ernie
Genone for the extra point after
the second score.

for St. Josephs, and linemen cit- i
ed for outstanding play included
Harry Kennedy, Johnny McFar-
lane, Jiggy Smaha, Jimmy Price,
and Nick Menden.
Alexander’s touchdown marked
the first time this season that St.
Joseph’s had been scored on. The
team was undefeated in five reg- j
ular season games. Alexander III,
also unbeaten, had given up only
six points.
Alexander IV School, coached
by Mike Garvin, a Mercer Uni
versity student and member of St.
Joseph’s Church, defeated Charles
H. Bruce School, 20-12, to win the
championship for large enroll-
men schools in the second game
of the doubleheader.
