The Voluntary Religious As
sociation presents its final pro
gram the first Sunday college is
open and presents its final pro
gram the last Sunday college is
in session. So far as activity is
concerned the V. R. A. with its
weekly Vesper Services is always
busy.
Petite Rachel Hunt started the
Association off on its course this
year with a cast of fine support
ing officers.
Coach Rhea A. Taylor became
the new faculty-advisor at the be
ginning of the year. Plans were
made at the firsjt meeting for Re
ligious Emphasis Week, Parent’s
Day, Christmas, Easter and Moth
er’s Day programs.
At the first vesper services the
freshmen were welcomed by
Rachel Hunt and the response was
given by Tom Herndon. Horton
Greene and Martha Gladd also ap
peared on the program.
Twenty-three West Georgia Col
lege members of the V. R. A. at
tended the Baptist Student Union
Convention in Athens’, October 23.
A get-to-gather banquet was held
Friday evening and Dr. Carl M.
i’ownsen, of Releigh, N‘. C., was the
principal speaker. A meeting was
held Saturday morning and on
Saturday afternoon Dr. O. P. Gil
bert, editor of the Christian Index
and Rev. George C. Gibson, pastor
of the Rose Hill church in Colum
bus, addressed the group.
The West Georgian representa
tives were Myric Nutt, Frank Bui*
den, Olive Keller, Mary Elizabeth
Meadows, Nelle Clegg, Mary C.
Langford, Sarah Sewell, Shirley
Dunwoody, Lillie Vee Doyle, Dick
Grace, Emmie Baker, Tom Luck,
Madge Doyal, Marion Lanier, C. L.
Goss, Pauline Berry, Virginia Ham
rick, Tom Herndon, Sara Gladney,
and Rachel Hunt. Miss Downs and
Mr. Taylor accompanied the group
to Athens.
Services held at the First Baptist
church in Carrollton on December
5 took the place of the regular
vesper program. Dr. D. B. Nichol
son, secretary of the Georgia Bap
tist Training Union and a group of
University of Georgia students took
part on the program along with
Rachel Hunt and Shirley Sherrill.
The Men’s Glee Club sang several
numbers.
Twenty-four West Georgians at
tended the Georgia Methodist
Student Conference in Milledge
ville on the week-end of February
4,5, and 0. The theme of the con
ference, which was held at G. S.
C. W., was Christian Issues To
doy.
Dr. B. D. Nicholson, state secre
tary of the Baptist Training Union
was the speaker at the vesper pro
gram February 5.
Eight members of the Voluntary
Religious Association and two
faculty advisors visited the Tus
kegee Institution April 15 and 16.
Those making the trip were Rachel
Hunt, Brown Dickson, Pauline
Berry, Mildred Dunwoody, Tom
Luck, Elizabeth Adams, Josephine
Rogers, Horton Greene and Mr.
and Mrs. J. C. Bonner.
The annual Religious Emphasis
Week capped the year’s activities
for the V. R. A. May 11, 12, and 13.
Rev. D. B. Nicholson opened the
program on Wednesday and spoke
again Thursday. Morgan Blake,
sports editor of The Atlanta Jour
nal, closed the program Friday
morning.
