The women’s Physical Educa
tion classes began the first week
of this year with lessons in danc
ing. AH over the camps one could
hear the notes of “Blue Rain”
while in the gym the classes
were saying over and over again
“Step, Together, Step.” Two af
ternoons a week have been de
voted to dancing so it seems by
the time of the first formal
everyone will be on the floor
dancing instead of sitting around
watching.
The Freshmen girls are doing
some wonderful work in learn
ing how to “dribble” the ball
around on the soccer field. There
is going to be a hard-fought
game between the freshmen and
sophomore girls the latter part
of this quarter. It is hoped that

all the faculty and students will
come out and give the girls plen
ty of support.
As soon as the soccer tourna
ments are over this quarter the
classes will start volley ball. It
is one of the indoor sports of the
campus in which all students en
joy participtaing.
Winter quarter will be devot
ed mostly to basketball. Teams
will be picked from each class
and will play in tournaments.
After the tournaments have been
played a Varsity A and B team
will be picked. There are also
hopes of playing some outside
teams this year. During this
quarter there are physical condi
tioning exercises which keeps
everyone in “tip-top” shape.
Spring quarter brings softball
and tennis. The sophomores are
already looking forward to these
games because of the fun they
had last year.
The W. A. A. and the W. Club
have not yet met and formulated
the plans for the coming year.
Last year these clubs sponsored
such activities as tea dances,
picture - show parties, weiner
roasts, hikes, and assisting with
other dances. The tea dances are
given once a month from five to
six o’clock. Everyone is requir
ed to dress for the occasion and
go from the gym to supper.
And everybody seems to be en
joying the new croquet set out
on front campus. Well, Jimmy
Nally does anyhow.
Sturgis Also Boy’s Physical
Education Director
The time honored practice of
meeting on the field of friendly
conflict not to mention the fact
that participation is required
brings on another year of Physi
cal Education.
Miss Ruth Sturgis is in charge
of this delightful pastime for
men and has outlined a program
which seems to take in all the
likes and dislikes of the “vic
tims.”
An arrangement has been
made which will enable classes
to meet each other in team
sports. The two classes of Phys.
Ed. meet three days a week at
8:55 and 1:15 respectively. On
Monday and Wednesday from
3:00 until 5:00 there is a group
meeting of all the boys.
The program for the year as
outlined by Miss Sturgis includes
a variety of team sports and
should give everyone an oppor
tunity to play the sport he likes.
Fall quarter is being given
over to Speedball and Touch
Football. Speedball is a form of
Soccer and if the Sophomores re
member correctly from last year
soccer is not a sissy game.
Winter quarter will be devot
ed to Basketball and Volleyball.
Basketball will be emphasized
and an effort will be made to ob
tain more games than usual with
outside teams.
Tennis and Softball will be the
interests during Spring quarter
and if last year was a good exam
ple the students will improve
their tennis playing through
Miss Sturgis’ advice.
One of the main interests of
the boys will be the competi
tion for letter awards and subse
quent membership in the “W”
THE WEST GEORGIAN
Club. This year letters will be
awarded on a point basis rather
than to members of varsity
teams. This is being done to give
more boys an opportunity to
win a letter and to make sure
that the winner of a letter really
deserves it.
An attempt will be made to
arrange Volleyball and Basket
ball games between the students
and faculty later on in the year.
There is also a possibility that
a tract team will be organized.

Three Carrollton churches
sponsored socials for the stu
dents of West Georgia, and real
ly showed the “kids” some good
times. The Baptist Tabernacle
gave one Sunday, September 24,
which they called “Fellowship
Hour.” Fellowship Hour is given
once a month in the basement of
the church, immediately follow
ing the preaching service, and
consists of playing games, sing
ing, and most of all eating. There
was plenty of good old fashioned
laughter too—straight from the
heart.
The First Baptist church gave
a buffet supper which was held
just before B. T. U. on the sec
ond Sunday after W. G. C. had
opened. The sandwiches, cook
ies, and punch were enjoyed by
all, and everyone was delighted
at the hospitality shown by the
people of the First Baptist
church.
The Methodist gave a picnic
at the City Park for the entire
college student body. After the
picnic, everyone gathered in the
gym where Jo Timberlake led
some games. There was “much
ado” when the students entered
in an Alphabetical Debate. Glenn
Crowder and Earl Yates defeat
ed their opponents with such
rousing words as “Mud and
Rats,” but Opal Rogers and Bob
bie Stepp did all right them
selves by snapping out with a
little “Corn.”

Sara Putnam, Laura Waldrop
and Evelyn Kidd, officers of the
Council, formed the receiving
line together with Dean Gunn,
faculty advisor of the group.
While sipping tea people were
very busy getting acquainted
with the new students. It was
not an uncommon sight, either
to find old students in a huddle
discussing the happenings of last
year and wondering where cer
tain ones of their friends were
this year. No doubt the faculty
were also busy discussing the
aspects of the coming term.
The tea was a definite success
and everyone left having met
quite a few of the new “addit
ions” on the campus.
