PRESENTS VESPER PROGRAM The Voluntary Religious As sociation held its weekly vesper services in the gymnasium. On the program of October 1, Bob bie Cobb gave the meditation and special music was present ed by Margaret Martin. Dean W. E. Gunn, speaker, of the after noon, delivered the message, “Why All Races Feel a Supreme Being." He spoke last year on a similar subject and one by which every listener did surely pro>- fit. The following Sunday, Oliver Lindsey presented special music and Reverend Smith acted as speaker. THERE’S NOTHING LIKE A FRESHMAN PARADE Imagine the surprise I had and the surprise I caused when I came “short stepping” from Adamson for the event of events for “Rat Weekthe Rat Parade! I say short stepping, because my usual careless stride was a bit encumbered by the unusual ar rangement of my skirt. A fall ing lock of hair, which was one of the twenty that 1 had entwin ed with a colored ribbon, fell be low “see" level, and caused me not to be sure, but wasn’t that a sophomore coming with a tube of lipstick? So ’t was and why? In about a half minute, I won dered no longer, because the bright red streaks down my face spoke for themselves, and quite loudly. Blame It On the Sophs And what I was dying to see was how everybody was going to display all his “joolery-fool ery,” but when I heard m3 7 room mate coming down the steps, I knew she had it all. That pocket book! and gloves with that garb? I stood looking at her, when along came a soph’ who immedi ately yanked my suitcase out of my hand and gave me my orders or requests from the high er class—What? My shirt wrong side out? And my garter wasn’t strong enough to hold my paja ma leg up? (Didn't she know there was a war on?) “Well." she said, “Use strings.” “But," I said. “Don’t all ladies of well trained taste turn down the tops of anklets and wear them with oxfords, rather than spikes?” “But you don’t know that, you’re a freshman," she replied consolingly. Starting down and looking up, 1 at first wondered about their shoes, but there they were around their perspiring necks. Was Murphy taking in wash ing? Nope, those were his books in his pillow case. And he wasn’t losing anything either, I found, because on closer observation, it turned out that his pajama pants were s-pose to be protrud ing from his bathing trunks. Two hours later, when one pump had hit the ceiling of my room and my “socked” foot was dangling painfully, I heard a faint murmur from roommate that sounded like “Glory, glory, when I’m a Soph! —Anonymous Freshman. “WEST” RECEIVES NEW PAINT JOB Wet paint signs were familiar objects on West Georgia campus last week. A few students who failed to see the signs, before it was too late, had to take the consequences. All agree, how ever. that it was well worth it to see the improvement made on the campus. A portion of almost every building on the campus has been painted. This includes Melson Hall. The Academic Building. Adamson Hall. The Library, and The Dining Hall. The painters are still at work.
