Distinguished Newspeople Address
Civic Dinner Session of West Ga. Week
Editor Ralph McGill of the At
lanta Constitution and Mrs. Helen
Hyett Waller,, New York Herald
Tribune Forum Director, address
ed a joint Lions, Rotary and
Kiwanis Club dinner Tuesday,
April 22, at 7 p. m. in West Geor
gia College Cafeteria. Brooks Pitt
man presided at this dinner meet
ing which featured the contribu

radio, television, forums, civic and
organizations.
Mrs. Waller is not unknown in
Carrollton and Carroll County.
Last summer she addressed the
Tabernacle Brotherhood and oth
er organizations about her idea
of an international exchange of
persons—Pilot Project. This idea
found enthusiastic support which
brought Amar Singh to Carroll
County for an eight-weeks visit
last fall and sent Paul Patten and
Ralph McGill to India for a like
visit.
Mrs. Waller has just completed
a significant high school forum
which heard 24 high school boys
and girls brought to this county
from 16 countries in the Near East
and Asia. They and young people
of the New York area in whose
homes and schools they visited
were participants in the forum
which discussed “The World We
Want,” successfully underlined
likenesses instead of differences,
and pointed up the truth that peo
ple we come to know as friends
are not difficult to understand and
appreciate.
This recent sixth high school
forum neara panel discussion by
youth and addresses by qualified
leaders. Gov. Thomas E. Dewey
made the opening address.
Founders Awards were pre
sented at the dinner meeting by
President I. S. Ingram to the fol
lowing:
A. W. Alexander, Richard Flinn,
Ruby Jenkins, J. H. McGiboney,
Ralph McGill, Mrs. A. W. McLarty,
