And his friends want to know where
his hair is
There s more to his terrible plight.
His pupils won't dose in the light
His heart is convorting
His wife is aborting
And he squints through his
gun-barrel sight
Arthritis pain mars his slumber:
His aorta's in need of a plumber.
But now he has tabes
And strangely looking babes
And gummas as large as
cucumbers
He's been treated in every’ known
way
But his spirochetes grow day by
day
He’s developed paresis
And thinks he's Queen of the May!
He died in the year 1420
of The Syphilis of which he had
plenty!
Venereal diseases are the most
common infectious diseases among
youth groups in the United States
today Dr F9ul Astin, a local physician
and Carroll Health Department Head,
describes venereal disease as a
"universal thing but it is not a
specific epidemic because it has been
going on for some time But no one
really wants to daim its origin
Supposedly it was originated by a
shepherd name Syphilius who made
love with sheep Later on, it was told
that Columbus brought it to the New
World, however So as of today, the
ongip is still unknown.
According to Dr Astin there are
three things held in common by the
West Georgia students: either colds,
accidents, or venereal disease Fifty
percent of the students are having
sexual intercourse with more than one
person
Thirty percent of the girls and 15
percent of the guys who are engaging
in promiscuity catch V D The rate
among the girls is higher because it is
more difficult for a female to detect
and they are unaware that they have it
and therefore don’t get cured until
later; whereas, the guys detect it
earlier and receive preventative
treatment for the disease
On the West Georgia campus,
gonorrhea is the number one case of
venereal diseases It is considered
number one because it is extremely
rare that cases of syphilis or other
types of venereal diseases are seen on
campus Gonorrhea is caused by an
organism called neissenea gonorrhea
It can be recognized among males by
painful unnation and secretion of pus
from the penis. However, in the
female, there are rarely any symptoms
at all Gonorrhea is treated by
physicians with doses of pemcilin or
tetracycline In cases of untreated
gonorrhea, it has been known to cause
sterility.
Gonorrhea is not only seen among
teenagers but younger children as
well. "Gonorrhea has been knowm to
appear in children as young as 8 years
old, ” Dr. Astin said and "it appears
among the younger ones because of
incest which is quite common today."
The college students usually go to
local physicians because they do not
want the school to know that they
have a venereal disease and do not
want it to appear on their school
records Dr Astin has treated cases of
V D. ranging from gonorrhea to
non specific vaginitis because of this
reason
On the college campus. V D has its
upswing dunng the fall quarter.
Christmas break and even more
during the time of spring quarter It is
high dunng the fall because a large
number of students engage in a great
deal of sex before they come to
college Dunng the Chnstmas break,
the students engage in a great deal of
sex because it is a holiday. Dr Astin
has reported that after Christmas,
there are more girls engaging in sex
and about 95 percent of them end up
pregnant or with venereal diseases
Dr Astin also stated that more sex
occurs during holidays During the
spring quarter, V D. occurs more than
dunng any other quarter
The myths and misconceptions of
venereal diseases have caused a lot of
confusion among many people. There
are such myths as 1) catching it from
toilet seats, and 2 > usually caught only
from prostitutes The misconceptions
of V.D : li nice people don’t catch
venereal disease 2) cures may be
bought at the drug store and that V.D
may usually be detected by a blood
