Education Chairman Wesley to Fill Position
Dr George H McNinch has been
named Chairman of the Department of
Middle Grades Education and Reading
at West Georgia, effective June 1 He
will succeed acting chairman Mary
Davidson who has held the position
since 1979 She will remain on the
faculty in that department.
McNinch is currently professor of
reading education in the Department
of Curriculum and Instruction at the
University of Southern Mississippi in
Hattiesburg He also served as past
associate editor of the Southern
Journal of Educational Research and
the chairman of the Policy Board in
Educational and psychological Re
search.

Jack Helheringlon, associate comp

named director of business services
Hethenngton came to the college in
1968 as assistant comptroller after
retiring as a lieutenant Colonel in the
U S Army with 24 years’ service He
was promoted to associate comptroller
in 1968
Hethenngton received the It A and

West Georgia’s Wesley Foundation,
the United Methodist Student Center,
will soon have a full-time campus
minister
Dr Dan Brewster, executive
director of the Georgia United
Methodist Commission on Higher
Education and Campus Ministry,
announced this week that the local
Wesley has been approved for this
expansion of service. The pastor at St.
Andrew United Methodist Church has
served as part-time director
Noting that there are more than 500
declared Methodist students at West
Georgia. deMayo said, “We believe
this expanded ministry will help us to
reach these students and many others
who might benefit from the program
we offer."
A Bible study-discussion will
continue at 5 p.m. today and followed
by a program at 6 p m
Valentine's Party
On Friday, February 13, the
pyramids of the Kappa Delta Chapter
of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc
held a Valentine's party at the Carroll
County Early Childhood Center
Approximately 58 children were
present along with day care center
employees and members of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority Refreshments
were served, and a variety of games
were played The project was a big
success
Group Gives Thanks
On Saturday, Feb 21, the Brothers
of the Omega Psi Ru Fraternity and
the Precious Pearls Club journeyed to
Atlanta to participate in the 19th
search for Atlanta’s missing and
murdered children. At this tune,
Omega Psi Phi and the Precious
Pearls Club would like to extend a
sincere thank you to all of the
members of the West Georgia
community who supported the effort
in person or in spirit.

Gay Awareness
The Gay Awareness Group will
meet Wed , March 4, at 7:30 pm. in
the old recreation room in the student
center The purpose of the group is to
clarify misunderstandings of what it
means to be gay and to provide
emotional support for gay people
within the community, according to its
