Students begin to shift into scholarly gear as fall ushers in the
new academic year.
With eagerness to learn, the knowlegde-hungry pupils stride into
classrooms filling the desks and anticipating the professor’s syllabus.
Residence halls sparkle and lysol-fresh odors linger in the dorm
rooms. The new bookstore opens its doors, as crowds flood in the
building, all hoping for used books. Fashion chaos is announced the
first day of classes.
All the beautiful people here at West Georgia, relieved that
summer has come to an end, climb the stairs slowly with some
excitement. We are all observers of these strange phenomena that we
call Fall Quarter. All the hassles that we secretly long for happen once
again: drop-add, buying books, and selecting that often hard to find
parking space.
Does it feel the same? There is some intangible excitement in the
air , or possibly nausea inflicted by that first paper due date. The
buildings are being gutted, and a metamorphosis occurs. The con
struction does not really bother anyone, but last year’s set cut
throughs will have to be redefined.
Familiar faces and some new ones smile at all the change. Gossip
about one’s summer adventures is exchanged. Rumors about
proposed buildings, new attractions and new hangouts are discussed
over morning coffee outside the humanities building. Invitations to
parties and talk about this season’s football team find their way into
the "hellos" and "how-are-yas."
There are some differences, but it is still good of West Georgia.
Welcome back.
