It is unlike any class: fun, name games,
and the like. However, the students of this
class leam leadership skills they will be
able to use during orientation sessions
coming up later this year.
A diverse group of students from
different backgrounds and interests were
interviewed and chosen for the position of
Orientation Leaders.
Selected students are trained to be
better leaders by participating in various
activities and sharing their personal stories
with other students in the class.
Some of the activities involve doing
ice breakers that allow students to interact
with fellow orientation leaders.
Although this class is like any other
class, instructors Chris Geiger and Laurel
Starling make the 50 minute class a
worthwhile experience.
The class also helps students to get

Baird honored
at NSEA
conference
Audrey Baird, assistant
director of the Department
of Career Services at the
University of West Georgia,
has been honored with the
Best of the National Student
Employment Association
Award at the annual NSEA
conference in Nashville.
Baird won recognition
for the Job Location and
Development program
she designed for Career
Services. JLD is a three
step program that includes
contacting local employers
for job postings, working
with students throughout
to know and accept different cultures. It
teaches the students to know themselves
as well as respect the beliefs of fellow
peers.
The students are being provided
appropriate training to handle the summer
orientation sessions with ease and without
stressing too much.
In order to be good orientation
leaders, students have to be tolerant and
patient when dealing with anew group of
students.
Each orientation leader will be
assigned a group of new students and
answer any questions students may have.
Orientation leaders are already
enjoying the class because the process of
learning is not a tedious one, but one of
fun and group activities.
Each student in this class has a goal
of making new students feel comfortable
with West Georgia.
With their new position, they will
have an influence of how these students
view West Georgia.

truly an honor.”
The annual conference
is designed to share
