“One of our main
goals of this project was
to help improve night
and weekend activities
on campus,” Linda
Picklesimer, director of
Student Activities said.
The building has a
13,000 square foot fitness
facility with 205 pieces
of equipment.
The two 1,500 square
foot aerobic rooms have
floating hardwood floors.
This is a set of flooring
that has air between them to
give an extra bounce while
doing aerobics.
From steps and bands
to hand weights and a
sound system, the aerobic
rooms are equipped with
anything a person could
need for a class.
Some other exercise
equipment in the fitness
area includes spinning
bikes, tread mills, elliptical
machines, and weights.
The work out room
will have 12 mounted
televisions for students to
watch while working out.
There will also be a small
area separate for women to
work out by themselves.
“The equipment
at school breaks a lot,
the rooms are small and
smelly. 1 like Gold’s gym
because it is clean and
they offer many aerobics
classes. But if the school
had bigger rooms with
TV's, music and better
equipment, I would
definitely work out there,”
said Keela Simpson, a
UWG senior.
According to
Picklesimer, the Campus
Center hopes to have at least
six aerobics classes a day.
There will be two
basketball courts. Students
can check out outdoor
equipment like canoes
and kayaks, bicycles, and
tennis equipment, too.
Visible from all levels
of the center is a 4X foot
rock climbing wall.
On the lower level of
the Campus Center is a
9,000 square foot ballroom
that can seat roughly 500
people banquet style and
XOO people theatre style.
It is fully carpeted
with cushioned chairs and

The ballroom can

Students will have first
priority over reserving the
ballroom area. But if not
being used, the community
can reserve the facility.
The Campus Center
has a total of four meeting
rooms, one being a
board room with a large
conference table.
All meeting rooms
are equipped with video

everything a student could

any off-campus gym I’ve
seen,” said Kristi Walker,
University Ambassador.
For now, the Campus
Center will share some of
its facilities with Athletics.
The University is
waiting for legislative state
funding to come through for
the Health, Wellness & Life
Long Learning Center.
This will be a 7,000

three years.
When HWLLLC
is finished. Physical
Education, Athletics,
Continuing Education and

When Athletics move,
the rest of the old HPE
building will be renovated
to add two more intramural
basketball courts to the
Campus Center.
Faculty and staff will
be able to purchase a fitness
membership for SIOO a
semester. This is equivalent

Not only does the
Campus Center offer fun
and fitness activities, it
will open up many campus
student jobs as well.
The center will need
night managers, a set up and
technical crew, and student
assistants in the offices.
Other positions include
control desk, game room,
fitness room, rock climbing,
outdoor equipment and
gym supervisors.
UWG will also hire
aerobic instructors and
personal trainers.
According to
Picklesimer, a student job
fair will be held sometime
in April to recruit
employees for the new
Campus Center.
