The UWG
volleyball team had
another busy week,
playing at home on
Wednesday as well
as four more matches
on the weekend at the
University of Alabama-
Huntsville Invitational.
The Wolves,
playing just their
second home match
of the season, sent
Augusta State packing
with a 3-1 victory.
The Wolves set the
tone early with a 30-26
win in the first game,
but lost the second
game allowing Augusta
State to even the match
at one apiece.
However, UWG
fired back, downing
Augusta State the next
two games by a count
of 30-18 and 30-22 to
take the match.
As usual, Carolin
Schoeneck was the
leader offensively,
racking up 26 kills
at a .447 clip. Amber
Barnlund chipped in
offensively with 12 kills
at a staggering .550 clip
and Paige Ely added
another 14 kills to give
Augusta State more
than they could handle.
Juliana da Silva
is usually an offensive
force, but last
Wednesday she showed
off her defensive
prowess with 17 digs
en route to a great
defensive performance.
Freshman Kamille
King joined in the
defensive parade as
well, finishing with 17
digs to match da Silva.
After moving to 6-
4 on the young season,
the Wolves packed their
bags for the University
of Alabama-Huntsville
to play four matches in
the invitational.
The Wolves opened
the tournament against
Harding in what turned
out to be a barn burner.
The Wolves took the first
game 32-30 but dropped
the next two games 20-
30 and 21-30.
Just one game
away from dropping
the match, head
coach Regan Adams
rallied her team to
muster a comeback.
UWG played inspired
volleyball, taking the
fourth game 30-23
to force a decisive
fifth game. In the fifth
game, the Wolves
slipped away with a
15-12 victory to take
the match.
Schoeneck lead the
way offensively with
23 kills coupled with
17 digs defensively.
King also contributed
on the defensive side
of the net as well with
20 digs.
The first win of
the tournament over
Harding might have
drained the team a bit
as they dropped the
next two matches to
Henderson State by a
count of 3-1 and were
swept by Christian
Brothers 3-0.
UWG refused to
give up on the weekend
though, squeezing
out a 3-2 victory over
Arkansas Tech The
Wolves lost the first
game 30-24 but fired
back with wins in game
two and three by scores
of 30-25 and 31-29.
respectively.
Arkansas Tech
then forced a game five,
w inning the fourth game
30-27. In the end. the
Wolves were too much
as they held on for a
match clinching win in
the fifth game 18-16.
Da Silva and
Schoeneck were at
it again in the finale,
combining for 45 kills
to give UWG the win
and a season record of
8-6. Schoeneck finished
with 22 kills while da
Silva finished with 23
kills.
The Wolves will
begin Gulf South
Conference (GSC) play
this week when they
travel to play Valdosta
State on Thursday at
7:00 p.m. and then to
Pensacola, Florida on
Saturday to face West
Florida at 2:00 p.m.
The conference
season opener is
scheduled for next
Tuesday when the
Wolves will play host
to Montevallo at 7:00
p.m.
The Wolves will
look to duplicate last
season’s success against
Momtevallo, when they
swept the series.

Coming off their first
win of the season last week
over Columbus State, the
Wolves made their home
debut this weekend with a
pair of games against Eck
erd and Lynn in the UWG
Invitational.
In the opener against
Eckerd on Friday, the
Wolves pressured the Tri
tons all day long on their
way to a 2-0 win. The win
came on the heels of a
shutout in their last game
against Columbus State,
giving keeper Jennifer
Ross back-to-back shut
outs to secure the first two
wins of the season.
The rest of the defense
made it fairly easy on Ross,
allowing just one shot on
the goal and four shots on
the day.
The offensive pres
sure by the Wolves paid off
in the waning minutes of
the first period as Melissa

weather for the first score of
the game. The goal served
as two milestones: the first
goal at home by the Wolves
and the first of her career.
The Wolves contin
ued to press the issue and
remained in attack mode.
Less than a minute later
the Wolves struck again
to take a 2-0 lead. This
time Senoia, GA native
Jessica Taylor passed to
Donna Evans who kicked
it through.
The defensive leaders
that stymied the Tritons of

Junior Stephanie Giles and
Senior Sam Malone.
Following the win,
the Wolves put themselves
in position to sweep their
own tournament with a
win over Lynn on Sunday.
The Wolves showed
up Sunday ready to play,
and pitched another shut
out behind Ross and her
five saves in the contest.
Taylor scored her first
collegiate goal Sunday after
noon to give the Wolves an

Even though the
Wolves were well on their

play aggressively. That ag

to 3-0.

Jennifer Ross recorded two
