The Chariot rides into local music scene

As far as the local
scene goes, the closest
thing Carrollton has to a
music scene will be the
one time appearance of
The Goo Goo Dolls at
the end of this month.
So unless you include
the open mic nights at
our local coffee shops,
Carrollton is as dry as
they come. Well, I’m
happy to let you know
that just half an hour
Silence from page 5
Castillo proved to
be the best bouzouki
player in town (I’m not
sure who else would
be in the running for
that award), while her
band mates proved how
creative they can be
without bells, whistles
or amps.
Both Castillo and
Bruneau broke out a
melodica at different
points during their brief
set. Melodicas remind
me of Augustus Pablo
and that, as I often say,
is a good thing.
While this
surprisingly different
and brief show doesn’t

away, Douglasville
hosts one of the hardest
hitting bands out there.
With their third album
(second full length)
released just last week.
The Chariot are one of
the best neighboring
local bands 1 could ask
for.
The Fiancee is a
breath of fresh air in
the often-redundant
hardcore scene. Norma
Jean will always be
Atlanta’s baby, but
Chariot are here to claim
Douglasville as their
own. After Josh Scogin
left Norma Jean in 2003,
he made The Chariot,
and is currently the only
remaining founding
member. If you’re a
fan of their past work,
namely The Unsung EP,
fear not. Josh and Cos.
bring it all back, and
measure up to their
previous efforts, I
thought it was good.
The lyrics were
easier to decipher, and
songs like “Shepard’s
Blood” sounded good
stripped down without
being completely naked.
On Friday, I drove
to Auburn, Al. to visit
some old friends and see
Small Framed Boy play
at Rooster’s Rhythm and
Brews.
The trip was
worthwhile, as the band
played a long and lively
set.
By the end,
Bruneau’s drum kit
even include a gospel
choir this time around
too.

For those unfamiliar
fans, this isn't a band
easily explained. Think
more Norma Jean
or Dillinger Escape
Plan than Unearth or
was getting wobbly and
finally began to collapse.
This didn’t deter him. as
he earned the before
mentioned “king of
improvisation" title. 1
tried to get the crowd to
chant “improvise”, but I
don't think they were as
impressed as I was.
1 try to dodge using
music journalist cliches,
but I can’t avoid saying
that Small Framed Boy is
unlike any band you’ve
heard before, so check
them out on MySpace
and try to catch one of
their upcoming shows.
Killswitch Engage.
Breakdowns without
the breakdowns, time
signatures without the
time. The Fiancee isn’t
just another hardcore
record. I’ll admit, I've
been skeptic about
this kind of music in

As for all you fellow

incredibly memorable
(not to mention highly

one of the fullest half
