Coming off a big road
win against Clark Atlanta,
West Georgia went into the
second game of the season
with great confidence
and momentum.
Unfortunately, Division
1-FCS Georgia Southern
entered the game with
the same poise and
determination, defeating
the Wolves 45-21 in their
season opener.
Many fans made the
trip to Statesboro to show
support for the Wolves.
Moreover, they were
partly responsible for
the announced crowd of
21,489, the most in three
years at Paulson Stadium.

Last weekend, the
Wolves hosted the first
annual West Georgia
Classic Volleyball
Tournament. Facing
teams from Fort Valley
State, Christian Brothers,
and Eckerd, the Wolves
went 4-0 and continued
their winning ways.
The Wolves faced
Fort Valley in the first
game and immediately
took the lead. They
dominated, winning
the first two matches
convincingly. The
aggressive play exerted
by the team stems from
hard work and practice
after struggling in certain
areas.

and Georgia Southern
wasted no time putting
pointson the board. Scoring
almost immediately,
senior quarterback Jayson
Foster sprinted for a 54-
yard touchdown to give
his team the early lead.
After a solid
performance last week,
quarterback Keats
Baldwin was consistent
in the next drive. Thirteen
plays and 75 yards later,
James Kennebrew lunged
for a four-yard touchdown
to even the score. Georgia
Southern received great
field position after a
blocked punt, but West
Georgia’s defense
clamped down and forced
the Eagles to kick a field
goal.
Baldwin continued
his good play in the
first half, leading two
as well as our serving,”
says assistant coach Lora
Sarich.
However, the third
match against Fort
Valley started a little
shaky for the Wolves
and they struggled on the
defensive side.
“Our defense wasn’t
what it usually is. We
normally play better,”
says Amber Barnlund.
Despite the rocky start,
the Wolves pulled it out
with 14 kills, winning the
match 30-27.
The Wolves played
Christian Brothers for the
second game. Team work
was a big component this
time around.
Working to spread
the ball around helped
the Wolves win all three
matches to go 2-0 for the
day. Sophomore Andressa
Martins served 17 straight

points in the third game.
Ending the day on such a
great note helped to build
momentum for day two.
The team's spirit w as
high for the game against
St. Andrews. The Wolves
overpowered St. Andrew s
on day two with 51 kills.
St. Andrews only had 24
kills as a team. Andressa
Martin helped bring
home three wins with 17
kills.
Eckerd was the last
team on the schedule for
West Georgia. They were
also the toughest team for
the Wolves, who passed
the ball around and got
great serves to help them
win each match.
The Wolves are
now 11-2 on the season.
The Wolves will travel
to Savannah to face
Armstrong Atlantic for
their next competition.

The Wolves led 21-10

of the first half stats made
a difference in the second
half as the Eagles scored
35 unanswered points and
held the Wolves to only 83
yards of offense.
After multiple
opportunities, the Wolves
were unable to produce
any offense in the second
