Along with going to
school, studying for exams,
iind attempting to have
some sort of a social life- 42
students at the University of
West Georgia also live the
life of a college cheerleader.
Even though sch(x>l did
not begin until August, these
cheerleaders have been busy
since last May. The try-outs
for both squads are held
annually in the spring. There
are eight girls and 10 guys
chosen for the Co-ed squad,
and 24 girls are chosen to
comprise the All-Girl squad.
Every member of each
squad is required to try-out
for their desired spot on
either the Co-ed or the All-
Girl squad, but ultimately
the coaches will place the
hopeful on the squad of their
choice.
In the summer, both
squads attended cheer camp.

taught new routines, and
they received some expert
coaching advice. During the
summer, the cheerleaders
were also expected to attend
several practices that would
help them get into shape
before the school year
started.
When school began,
the cheerleaders stepped
it up a notch by attending
three practices a week.
Each practice was three

defeated the Underdogs

as champions.
Last week, Fastbreak
faced undefeated Kind of a
Big Deal, who was on the
verge of winning their first
intramural championship.
However, Fastbreak
had other plans as they
defeated KBD 12-7 in a
very' competitive match-
hours long. Where some
athletes might arrive right
when practice is scheduled
to begin, these cheerleaders
arrive 30 minutes early.
“These 30 extra minutes
help prepare us mentally and
physically for the practices,”
Co-ed squad member Sarah
Masters said.
A lot of things are
required for our cheerleaders.
They are required to keep
their grades up, hold down a
full class schedule, attend all
up.
The game started

went back and forth and
struggled to produce
offense. After both teams
punted, KBD struck first

yard touchdown run. After
