Mass Of Resurrection
For Rev. William Daly
Rev. William Daly, O.M.I. Associate
Pastor of St. Joseph’s Church,
Washington, Ga., died on Wednesday,
May 26. Father Daly was Pastor of St.
Paul’s Catholic Church, Douglas, Holy
Family, Willacoochee, St. Ann’s
Alapaha and St. William’s, Fitzgerald
from 1963 to 1966.
During his thirty-five years in the
Priesthood, Father Daly was considered
one of the outstanding preachers of the
Oblate Mission band in his missionary
work throughout the United States.
The Mass of the Resurrection was
celebrated on May 31 at St. Joseph’s
Church, Washington, Ga.; internment
was at the Oblate cemetery in
Tewksbury, Mass.

Sister Margaret Eugenia
Buried In Saint Louis
Funeral Mass for Sister Margaret
Eugenia Schweers, C.S.J., was held at
9:00 a.m. Monday, May 24th, at
Nazareth Community Chapel in Saint
Louis, Mo., where Sister had retired five
years ago.
Sister Margaret Eugenia, the former
Elizabeth Schweers was the daughter of
John Bernard and Mary O’Connor
Schweers of Sacred Heart Parish,
Sr. Margaret
Eugenia Schweers, C.S.J.
Augusta. She was the granddaughter of
Captain E.J. O’Connor.
A graduate of Mount Saint Joseph
and Fontbonne College, she taught in
the public schools of Augusta for about
twenty years prior to her entrance into
the Sisters of Saint Joseph of
Carondelet in 1946. She was best
known for her teaching at Monte Sano
School and her coaching of the girls at
Mount Saint Joseph in all phases of
Physical Education. She was also
involved as a volunteer in teaching
swimming at Getzens and the Y.W.C.A.
Her whole life was spent for others,
especially for the young who loved her
as a person and revered her as a teacher.
Returning to Georgia after her first
Profession as a Sister of St. Joseph in
1949, Sister Margaret Eugenia taught at
the following schools: Boys’ Home,
Washington, Ga.; Sacred Heart School,
Savannah; Saint Francis School,
Brunswick; and Saint Mary’s on the Hill,
Augusta. Sister retired to Nazareth in
August, 1971.
She is survived by two sisters, Sister
Mary Bernard, her twin, who is now
retired at Nazareth Convent after many
fruitful years in the Dioceses of
Savannah and Atlanta, and Sister Rose
Margaret Schweers who is
Administrative Assistant in charge of
Public Relations at Saint Joseph
Hospital in Augusta. Sister Margaret
Eugenia is also survived by many nieces
and nephews, cousins and friends.

Class of 1976 were awarded honor cords at the commencement exercises
of St. Vincent’s Academy. The honor graduates are: first row: Vicki

Mary Trees, Catherine Dunn, Patricia Kameron, Cecilia Persse, Wendy
Robinson, Barbara Hussey, Mary Merrick, Sharon Greenfield and Debbie

Honors Awards Given
At S.V.A. Class Night
Trees were recognized as St. Vincent’s
Star Students for 1976 and Patricia
received the class president’s medal. She
was also the winner of a scholarship
from Continental Can Company.
Debbie Osteen, student council
president was recognized for her
outstanding leadership and for her
editorship of the “Flash.” Journalism
awards went to Mary Merrick, Cecilia
Persse, Ann Pinckney and Carol Tarver.
Yearbook awards went to editor, Jan
Gaudry and staffers: Nancy Dooley,
Theresa Fleming, Catherine Dunn,
Sharon Greenfield, Patty Kameron,
Eileen McMahon, Mary Gene Murphy,
Barbara Hussey, Patrice Mell, Stephanie
Stevens and Mary Trees.
Certificates of achievement and
recognition in Who’s Who in Foreign
Languages in Georgia High Schools and
Junior Colleges were awarded to Vicki
Gefen and Cecilia Persse.
St. Vincent’s Service awards were
given to Anne Buttimer, Carol Hadsell,
Wendy Robinson, Cindy Peters, Renee
Graham, Eileen McMahon, Marie
Elmore and Mary Gene Murphy.
Perfect attendance certificates were
achieved by Cathy Burnett, Lucille
Hendrix and Mary Frances Trees.
Anne Buttimer, Carol Hadsell and
Michelle Iocovozzi were awarded
scholarships by the Cooper Foundation.

Merit Scholarship Foundation, and
scholarships from Union Camp
Corporation and the Georgia Board of
Regents.
The Betty Crocker Search for
Leadership Award was won by
Catherine Dunn. \

from the National Association of School
Principals for having composed the best
Bicentennial Minute.

GREEN GODDESS SALAD DRESSING
(Makes an excellent dip for raw vegetables)
Ingredients:
1 clove of garlic, grated
3 tablespoons anchovy, finely chopped
or 1 tablespoon anchovy paste
3 tablespoons olives or green onions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3 tablespoons tarragon wine vinegar
Vi cup sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup parsley, finely chopped
salt and coarse black pepper to taste
Procedure:
Combine ingredients in the order given and chill thoroughly. This makes
approximately a pint and can be kept for 2 weeks. It is better after being refrigerated
for 24 hours.

Graduates 86 Seniors
Savannah’s St. Vincent’s Academy
graduated eight-six seniors in the
traditional commencement exercises
held on May 26 in the Cathedral of St.
John the Baptist. Bishop Raymond W.
Lessard, D.D., Bishop of Savannah
conferred the diplomas and delivered
the address.
Carol Patrice Mell, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles E. Mell III, was named

meeting of the year Monday, June 7th, at 7:30 p.m., in one of the banquet rooms of

Pilgrimage Over Top
The Pilgrimage to the 41st International Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia in
August, sponsored by the Savannah Deanery, registered the fortieth person at 9 A.M.
last Sunday after calls came in over the week-end from Brunswick, Warner Robins,
Augusta and Macon as well as Savannah.
A Waiting List has been set up for which a $10.00 (refundable) deposit is required.

INTERPAROCHIAL WEEK-END RETREAT was held at Magnolia
Springs State Park, Millen, for 45 Robins Air Force Base Youth and 30
Sacred Heart Youth. Eleven adults along with Father Mario DiLella,
O.F.M., Campus Minister for Georgia Institute of Technology, and Father
Walter L. DiFrancesco, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Warner Robins,
directed the retreat. Pictured at the Offertory of the Eucharistic Liturgy
along with the youth are Fathers Mario, O.F.M., and DiFrancesco.
Death and burial and cemeteries are not forever — such will fade
away in the eternal light of Christ’s Resurrection when Easter
erases Good Friday from the calendar for all eternity. Meanwhile,
