Five schools gain new principals
Marci Arling
Blessed Sacrament School,
Savannah
T he new principal of Blessed
Sacrament School, Savannah, is
Marci Arling. Marci has a B.S. Ed.
in Early Childhood and an M. Ed. in
Educational Leadership. Mrs. Arling
taught for the past 11 years in Ef
fingham County (fourth grade for
seven years, math 1-5 for three
years, and music K-5 for one year).
Marci has been an active member of
the Council of Catholic Women for
over 15 years, serving as parish,
deanery and diocesan president and
as secretary-treasurer of the Atlanta
Province Board. Active in Saint
Matthew Parish, Statesboro, she is a
eucharistic minister and has been a
CCD teacher, youth music director,
Bible school director, and cantor.
Marci is married to Dr. Harry J.
Arling, Professor of Music at Geor
gia Southern University, Statesboro.
They have two daughters, Heather
Arling Whitlock and Ashlee.

Nina A. Delk
Saint Frances Cabrini School,
Savannah
N ina Delk is a native of Savan
nah. She attended Blessed
Sacrament School and public high
schools. Ms. Delk received her
Bachelor’s degree in Early
Childhood Education from George
Peabody College in 1976, a Masters
in Education (1990) from Armstrong
Atlantic State University and an
Educational Specialist’s degree in
Elementary Education from Georgia
Southern University in 1995. Ms.
Delk has worked as a classroom
teacher with the public school sys
tem since 1985. She spent the past
11 years teaching kindergarten at
Windsor Forest Elementary School.
Ms. Delk is actively involved in
many issues and events related to
early literacy and parent education.
She has one daughter, Jessica, who
will attend Colorado State University
this fall as a freshman.
Barbara Perryman
Pacelli High School,
Columbus
L ong-time math teacher Barbara
Perryman has been appointed
interim principal of Pacelli High
School. Bom in Junction City, Kan
sas, she has lived in Columbus since
1964. Barbara was graduated from
Jordan High School in 1975 and
from Columbus College in 1979
with a degree in Mathematics Edu
cation. She taught at Spencer High
School from 1979-1982 and began
teaching at Pacelli in August 1982,
in the mathematics department. She
received her Masters in Mathe
matics Education from Columbus
College in 1983 and her Specialist
Degree in 1993. Mrs. Perryman vol
unteers at Saint Anne Church as
parish hostess and helps coordinate
weddings. Barbara is married to
Bryant Perryman, a Columbus
native and speech language patholo
gist for the Muscogee County
School District.
Saint Peter the Apostle School,
Savannah
B om in Johnstown, Pennsylvania,
Jim Gibson was raised in the
Trenton, New Jersey, suburbs and
was graduated from Western Mary
land College in 1960. After a year of
public school teaching at Hamilton
High School in Johnstown, he served
for two years in the U.S. Army. He
earned a Master’s degree in History
from Rutgers University. He taught
in a small, private school (Valwood)
in Valdosta. In 1983, after comple
tion of the dissertation, he was
awarded his doctorate by Clark
University in Worcester, Massachu
setts. Dr. Gibson accepted a position
as head of the Upper School at Saint
Andrew’s on the Marsh School in
Savannah. In 1988, he moved to
what was then the Nativity School
(now Saint Peter the Apostle) as an
English instructor. In 1993, he began
a 6-year period as the headmaster at
Memorial Day School in Savannah.
Nan Gillespie
Saint Joseph School,
Macon
N an Gillespie is the new Principal
at Saint Joseph’s School in
Macon. Nan has lived in Macon for
over twenty years. She is a graduate
of Wesleyan College, and holds a
Master’s degree from Mercer Uni
versity and an Educational Specia
list’s degree from the University of
Georgia. For the past 13 years, Nan
worked in the Bibb County Public
Schools. Her last position was
Assistant Principal of Weaver Middle
School, where she worked from
1996-2000. Nan and her husband,
Mike, have two boys who attend
Saint Joseph’s School. They attend
Holy Spirit Parish. Saint Joseph
School has a long and rich history.
The Sisters of Mercy, under the
direction of the pastors of Saint
Joseph Church, founded and have
maintained the responsibility of
teaching the Catholic faith to the
children of Macon since 1872.
