Savannah Deanery Theology
Seminar postponed
The Savannah Deanery Theology Seminary
originally schduled for February 2-3 has been
postponed on account of an emergency in the
speaker’s family. The Southern Cross will
announce the new dates when they are finalized.
Aquinas Placement Test
Aquinas High School, Augusta, will give the
placement test for incoming freshmen and sopho
mores on February 3 from 8:30 p.m. until noon.
Students should be picked up promptly at noon.
Bring two number 2 pencils and $15 for registration.
Investiture Mass
Monsignor William O. O’Neill invites all to join
him in prayer and gratitude at his investiture as a
Prelate of Honor at the Cathedral of Saint John the
Baptist, Savannah, on February 4 at the 11:30
a.m. Mass celebrated by Bishop J. Kevin Boland.
A reception will follow at the council home of
Knights of Columbus Council #631, located at 3
West Liberty Street, Savannah.
Saint Teresa’s Black History
Month programs
Saint Teresa Church, Albany, will begin its 15th
annual Black History Month Programs with two
jazz programs for the first two Sundays in Febru
ary. Featured artists will be Mustaqueem Graydon
and his group, “Unconditional Response.” The
program schedule is as follows:
February 4 Part I: Comments by Mr.
Graydon and group demonstration of Jazz styles:
Ragtime, Blues, and Swing.
February 11 Part 2: Free Form, Contemporary,
and Progressive Jazz.
February 18 Dr. Leroy Bynum of Albany State
University will give a talk with examples of Black
sacred music.
February 25 Mrs Yvonne Christian and chil
dren in activities expressing Black History in cre
ative ways.
There will be time for questions at all programs.
Coffee and donuts will be served as will a variety
of drinks for the children on February 25.
Dance with the Glenn Miller
Orchestra
Catholic Social Services, Augusta, and the
Saint Vincent de Paul Health Clinic present the
2001 Saint Valentine’s Day Dance featuring the
“Glenn Miller Orchestra” on February 8 at the
Bell Auditorium, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Corporate
tables (seating 8 people) are available for $400.00,
or $50.00 per seat. General admission is $15.00.
All proceeds will benefit Catholic Social Services
and the Saint Vincent de Paul Health Clinic.

Engaged Encounter
The 2001 Catholic Engaged Encounter
Weekend schedule is as follows: Spring weekends
will be held on February 9-11 and April 27-29
at Norman Park, and will cost $195.00 per couple.

Diocesan Intercollegiate
Weekend Retreat
The Diocesan Intercollegiate Weekend Re
treat, “Blessed, Broken, and Given for the, World”
will be held February 16-18 at Little Ocmulgee
State Park, 2 miles north of McRae. A completed
registration form and a $35.00 fee must be mailed

line for registration is February 2. Late registra
tions will be accepted as long as there is space.

International Dinner
Saint Jospeh Church, 1048 E. Cherry St., Jesup,
will hold its annual international dinner on Feb
ruary 23 from 6:00—8:00 p.m. Tickets may be pur

10 years of age) from any member of the C.C.W. or

will go to the home and foreign missions.
NPM Workshop
The Savannah Chapter of the National Associ
ation of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) will sponsor a
two-day workshop February 23-24 with Chris
topher Walker, the noted composer of contempo
rary Catholic music, at Saint Peter the Apostle
