T he City of Savannah’s Depart
ment of Cultural Affairs and the
Tara Feis Committee will present the
internationally acclaimed Irish folk
group, The Wolfe Tones, at this
year’s 10th Annual Tara Feis.
Tara Feis, the city’s free Irish Fes
tival, will be held in Emmet Park on
Bay Street, Savannah, on Saturday,
March 10. The fun begins at 11:00
a.m. and lasts through 5:00 p.m.
In addition to the Wolfe Tones,
main stage events will include Irish
entertainment provided by Harry
O’Donoghue, Tom O’Carroll, the
Moon River Chorus, Glor na
h 'Eireann—the
Pride of Ireland
Academy of Irish
Dancing, and the
Savannah Irish
Dancers. A chil
dren’s stage will
feature the two
Irish dance groups,
the Conrad Hartz
Marionette Circus,
Tom O’Carroll, and
theater games pre
sented by the Savannah College of
Art and Design. Barnes restaurant
will provide food for purchase and
rides by Funtime Entertainment will
also be available for the children.
Except for the food, there is no
charge. No alcoholic beverages are
sold or allowed in the park.
The Wolfe Tones, formed in 1963,
consists of Brian and Derek Warfield,
Tommy Byme and Noel Nagle, all
bom and raised in Dublin, Ireland.
Over a period of 35 years, the Wolfe
Tones have played in almost every
imaginable setting, from the intimate
pubs of Ireland to the austere atmos
phere of the
Royal Albert
Hall, and
Carnegie Hall to
the Olympia in
Paris. Their per
formances have
been enjoyed by
enthusiastic audi
ences at festivals,

door concerts all

Europe and the United States. During
their career, the group has amassed a
staggering collection of Irish ballads
and tunes and added considerably to
that catalog with its own original
songs and tunes. They have recorded
well over a dozen full-length albums
which reflect their extraordinary
body of work. In performance, with
guitar, banjo, whistles, mandolin,
harp and pipes, the Wolfe Tones
weave their way through some of
Ireland’s historic moments,
enthralling spectators with songs that
capture their hearts and tunes that
move many a foot.

Catholic College Scholarship available
from the Diocese of Savannah
T he Catholic College Scholarship applications for the Diocese of Savannah
are now available for students applying to or attending Catholic colleges.
Awards of $2,000 each are made annually to one freshman, one sophomore, one
junior and one senior from the applications received. Scholarships are good for
one year only. Reapplication is necessary for renewal.
Applicants must be Catholic (male or female), at least high school seniors
with a satisfactory academic record, leadership ability, good character refer
ences and belong to the Diocese of Savannah. The student should be active and
participating in the life and service of their parishes and schools.
Call the Catholic Schools Office (912-238-2320) for an application to be
mailed to you. The deadline for returning the application and all documentation
is February 28, 2001.
