praise and prayer. The Lord Jesus is
in our midst.
December: Jesus is bom in
Bethlehem of Judea. The Lord
Jesus is in our midst. Let us kneel
at the manger in prayer:
“My Lord Jesus, you came to us
as a ‘baby in arms’ fragile weak
and dependent upon Joseph and
Mary for your needs and upbring
ing. We are also fragile, weak and
dependent upon you. You are God’s
presence—fill our lives with the
wonder of your love and help us to
live a life that is worthy of your
name. May we, who make up the
Diocesan family, model ourselves
to mirror Joseph and Mary in help
ing to make the Gospel of Jesus
present in the world.”
May the Peace of Christ abide
with you this Christmas season.
Sincerely yours in Christ,

Diciembre: Jesus nace en Belen de
Juda. El Senor Jesus esta en medio
de nosotros. Arrodillemonos ante el
pesebre y oremos:
“Mi Senor Jesus, tu viniste a
nosotros como un ‘bebe en brazos’
ffagil, debil y dependiente de Jose y
Maria en tus necesidades y edu-
cacion. Nosotros tambien somos
ffagiles, debiles y dependientes de ti.
Tu eres la presencia de Dios - llena
nuestras vidas con la maravilla de tu
amor y ayudanos a vivir una vida
digna de tu nombre.
Que nosotros, los que com-
ponemos la familia Diocesana, nos
modelemos a nosotros mismos para
que seamos reflejo de Jose y Maria
en ayudar a hacer presente el
Evangelio de Jesus en el mundo.
Que la Paz de Cristo permanezca
con ustedes en esta Navidad.

gratefully he accepted the angel’s word that
God wants him to take Mary into his home as
his wife and share with her the responsibility
for this child. Again we find nothing except a
humble willingness to do what God decided,
no seeking of places of honor for himself,
“foster” father is quite fine for Joseph.
Luke would much later record for us a parable
spoken when Jesus noticed how people were try
ing to get the places of honor at the table.
“When you are invited,” said Jesus, ”do not
recline in the place of honor...but go and take
the lowest place...for everyone who exalts him
self will be humbled, but the one who humbles
himself will be exalted” (Luke 14:7-12).

to do this. At table with the disciples on that
night before he was to die, Jesus got up, he
who was Lord and Master, to wash their feet.
This shocked Peter to the point of resisting.
But the greater surprise was still to come. This
Master would give himself to them as food and
drink. Ready and willing to be humbled unto
death on the Cross, Jesus chooses to make
himself present to his family as the food of His
table. The seed that fell humbly into the earth
has become the Bread of Life with its promise
of eternal Glory.
Many marriages have been saved because
one partner chose to be humble rather than
rush to demand their rights in a divorce court.
Many people’s lives are saved at surgeries
done by gifted doctors, with the necessary help
of many humble and unrecognized assistants.
Many distinguished writers and speakers are
greatly enabled by their secretaries and editors.
God’s greatest initiative was to share his
only-begotten Son with the human race as light
and strength, our Way, Truth and Life. But this
great divine initiative got underway with the
help of many humble servants whom the hum
ble Jesus would exalt as the first in his
Kingdom. These are the stars of Advent:
Elizabeth, and John the Baptist, Mary and
Joseph. Are we humble enough to do as God
decides and let His light shine?
