» r THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 1963 GEORGIA BULLETIN PAGE 7 JAMES L. - Upchurch, 2738 Fern Valley Drive, East Point, member of the Board of Directors, Catholic Social Services, looks on as Emory doctor counsels rapt, young patient on the importance of brushing his teeth. WASHINGTON KIDS Dental Check-Up Was Really A Ball’ Who's afraid of the dentist? You probably are, and we sure are, but not the band of 27 gleeful, grinning boys, ages 6 to 14 years, who descended en masse on the Emory University School of Dentistry last week. They were up from the country, the St. Joseph's Children Home, situated on a farm outside of Washington, Georgia, for their annual dental check-up, and to them, it was all a big, fun- filled lark. THE BOYS immediately fell in love with the pretty, young nurses, and were quick to make friends with the doctors. They were fearless of the forceps, and “open wider, please,” merely brought on another gullaw. Normal boy-like curio sity prompted a hundred and one questions such as, “What that thing for?”, "Why do you need those shiny little scis sors?” Obviously, everybody had good time, and when the party was over, nobody counted noses, they counted teeth as the boys packed into the school bus which was to take them home. All in all, there were well over 15 extractions, 27 throughexamin- ations, thanks to the genero sity of the Emory School of Dentistry', and the Catholic So cial Services, an agency of the United Appeal, that made arr angements for the boys’ visit to Atlanta.
