St. Pius stunned the AAA Ma
rist Cadets Saturday night 20-
14. The Golden Lions trailed
the Cadets most of the game but
finally gained the lead midway
through the fourth period.
IN THE SECOND period
Rhode Hill, Marist punter, put
the Gold and White in a deep
hole. He lofted a 54 yard kick
out of bounds at the Lions five
yard line. The Lions drove out
to their 30 but fumbled again to
the Cadets.
Marist took advantage of this
break as they went in to score.*
The payoff was a 20 yard pass
from Bill Reitmeier to John
Banberry. Dennis Withers add
ed his first of two extra points
and the Cadets led 7-0.
ST. PIUS TOOK the following
kickoff and drove 80 yards in
nine plays to score. The big
gainer of the drive was a 34
yard scamper by Denny Wig-
bels to the Marist 20 yard line.
St. Pius kicked off to Marist,
held the Cadets, and forced a
punt. Rhode Hill boomed one
50 yards to Denny Wigrels, Wi-
gbels took it on his own 20,
cut down the left sideline, and "
sprinted 64 yards to the Marist
15 yard line. The Lions failed
to push across a score as the
half came to an end.
marist kicked off to st.
Pius to start the second half.
The Lions fumbled deep in their
territory and set up the Cadets
with first and four yards to go
for a score.
Tom Medland returned Mar
ia's kickoff 43 yards to his own
47 yard line. Hie Lions cover
ed the 53 yards in five plays
to score. Ed Lacy drove five
yards for the TD and Faletti
converted for a 14-14 tie score.
. St. Pius drove out to their
45 yard line and with fourth
and two yards to go, elected to
kick. Tom Medland booted one
out of bounds at the Cadet five.
The kick covered 50 yards.
Marist quarterback Bill Rei
tmeier faded to pass on third
down and three. Under tremen
dous pressure he fumbled and
defensive tackle Joe Mangan
fell on the ball in the end zone
for the deciding touchdown.
This was the final game of
die season for St. Pius's Gold
en Lions.

PROTESTANT CHURCH
Priest Conducts Devotions
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (RNS)—
A morning Bible service in a
Protestant church here was
conducted by a Roman Catho
lic priest.
Father Thomas E. Leavey of
the Kansas City-St. Joseph Ca
tholic diocese led a congrega
tion of 80 persons in the ser
vice at the Country Club Chris-
tan Church.
DR. LAWRENCE W. BUSH.
Minister, introduced Father
Leavey to the congregation as
the service began. He said he
believed the occasion marked
the first time in the Kansas
City area that a Catholic priest
had conducted a religious ser
vice in a non-Catholic church.
The priest was the foiirth in a
series of guest clergymenfrom
other communions who are con
ducting Monday morning ser
vices for the congregation,
BIBLE-CENTERED, the de
votional period saw Father Lea
vey read a selection from Chap
ter 2 of the Canticle of Canti
cles and give a homily based
on the text.
“People are afraid to face up
to the message of this book,”
he said. “Love is the central
thought in the Christian mes
sage.
ANSWER TO LAST
WEEK’S
PUZZLF
“IT IS THE noblest of Chris
tian sentiments. It alone gives
meaning to life. It takes every
faculty and knows no limits,
,f Cod gives love. Our re
sponse determines how and
when the Christian message
will take root in the world.'*
THE CATHOLIC priest led
in the singing of the opening and
closing hymns, taken from the
hymnal at the church.
He also read the scripture
text from the large Bible en
throned on the Communion table
in the church.
Msgr. Joseph V. Sullivan,
chancellor of the Kansas City-
St, Joseph diocese, who had ac
cepted Dr. Lawrence W. Bash’s
invitation, had been scheduled
to lead the service. When ill
ness prevented him from doing
so, Father Leavey, assistant
diocesan director of the Con
fraternity of Christian Doctrine
substituted for him.

Buys Father Judge
Boston Birthplace
BOSTON (RNS) — A Roman
Caiholic priest has purchased
a ramshackle building in South
Boston which was the birth
place of FatherThomas August
ine Judge, a Vincentian miss
ionary who founded two religi
ous orders.
Three thousand persons "who
can spare a dollar each" to
supplement the priest’s ex
penditure are needed in his
campaign to convert the struct
ure into a religious shrine.
FATHER JOSEPH MCINNIS
of St. Clare High School bought
the house when an ecclesiasti
cal court was convened in Wash
ington to study the qualifications
of Father Judge for canonizat
ion.
Father Judge was born in
1868 and upon the death of his
father he left school to help
support a large family. At
the age of 30 he decided to
become a Vincentian priest.
Eventually he founded the
orders of Trinity Missioners
and the Trinitarian Sisters.
They train laymen to take part
in church mission work and fur
ther the work of lay apostolates.
FATHER MCINNIS paid
$1,000 down (his entire savings)
to purchase the birthplace of
Father Judge, securing a bank
mortgage to cover the balance.
The building is badly in need
of repairs.
CINCINNATI (NC)—The Ve
rona Fathers will build a new
seminary in Columbia, N. J.
Father Anthony Todesco, F.
S.C.J., U. S. provincial, said
the seminary, slated for com
pletion in September, 1965, will
be built on a 98-acre estate
recently acquired by the mis
sionary community, formally
known as the Sons of the Sac
red Heart of Jesus. Located
in the Trenton diocese near
the Delaware Water Gap, the
community's third U. S. semi
nary will accommodate stu
