A record for attendance was established Sunday when, for the third consecutive year, the Holy Name Society of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception honored the football teams and coaches of three Atlanta Catho lic high schools. Approximately 275 men and boys received Communion with the Society and stayed for the breakfast meeting held after Mass in the Social Hall. The president of the Holy Name Society, Mr. Eddie Cas- perini, acted as toastmaster at the breakfast meeting, intro ducing the Pastor of the Shrine, Father Leonard Kelly, OFMand the coaches present, including Mr. Don Shea, Marist; Mr. George Maloof, St. Pius X; Mr. Bill Daprano, St. Joseph and Mr. Tom McDevitt, St. Joseph. FATHER KELLY extended a hearty welcome to the football teams, coaches, parents and other guests of the Society. Mr. Gasperini introduced the offi cers of the Society to the "roup gatheres and also welcomed the teams and coaches of the •chools present. Mr. Gaspe rini also elaboraged on the many advantages of belonging to and taking an active part in a Holy Name Society. Among the many benefits, it helps estab- list a regular basis.ror receiv ing Holy Communion. One of the highlights of the meeting was the awarding of the Immaculate Conception Holy Name Society Sportsmanship Trophies to the football play er on each team, who in the opinion of a selection board symbolized all the good quali ties of his team, Inotherwords, not the best passer, blocker, runner or tackier but the boy who gave more than 100% and was an inspiration to his team. The boys selected were, Paul Faletti, St. Pius X; Edwin Dyer, Marist and Dennis Fitzgerald, St. Joseph. Each received a handsome trophy from Mr. Gas perini, who also extended the congratulations of the Society. The Holy Name President also presented the Immaculate presented the Immaculate Con ception Holy Name Awards in the form of beautifu trophies to St. Joseph, 4 B sub-region champions 1963; to St. Pius X, Atlanta Catholic Football Atlanta C a t h o 1 i c Football Champions 1963 and to Marist the Good Sportsmanship Award. Coach Shea emphasized good sportsman ship both on and off the field. While Marist did not have an outstanding year, he was not dissatisfied with the> team re sults. Coach Maloof traced the year just ended at St. Pius .. how the team had a poor start, largely because it was a green team, having only one returnee from last years starting 11. How the team was almost out on seve ral occasions but after 4 games became of age, matured and de veloped into one of-the finest teams he has ever coached. He also reminded the gatherings, lessons learned on a football field, better equip boys for life ahead. Coach Daprano reminded all ... m past years, records at St. Joseph were not to good. This year he can brag, for from a humble beginning of winning only 1 game last year, his boys ammassed 10 victories in 1963 and a sub-region crown in their class. The boys determination, desire and willingness made this excellent record possible. Coach McDevitt, an Assistant at St. Joseph reminded all on behalf of his boys, "We ar rived this year ... we plan to stay.” P.
