Appointed to the general chairmanship of this year's ball is Damon J. Swann, of Atlanta Council 660. The date of the affair is Friday, February 7 and it will take place in the exhibition hall of the Atlanta Blltmore. It is anticipated from the results of an advance ticket sales drive that as many as 1,500 persons will attenc.. The famed "Sorta 40".orchestra, a group of pro fessional men who play for the fun of it and for charities, is scheduled to provide dance music. The theme of the Mardi Gras is "Around the World." Special awards will be made for best interpretation of the theme, in three categories: best individual costume; best costumes of two persons; best costumes of a coordinated group of three or more persons. Prominent Atlantians will be judges of the competition. The grand knights of the four metropolitan area councils are: George A. Andrews, Atlanta Council 660; Mario Mas- cardelli, Immaculate Heart of Mary Council 4420, Ben Hill; Waiter C. Clark, St. Joseph Council 4599, Marietta; Boh- linger Sharp, Father Thomas J. O’Reilly Council 4358, De catur. Officers of the general com mittee include co - general chairman Mario Moscardelli; B. Franklin Clark, treasurer; William S. Purdy, secretary; Shirley L. Vick, Jr., special committee counselor. Special chairmen serving with the Mardi Gras committee are: Eugene J. Bergmann, director of St. Thomas More Theatre Guild, chairman of pageantry and coronation cere monies; John M. Lengyei, chairman of costume awards; and James A. O'Kon, chairman and designer of decorations. at the ball. Queen of the Mardi Gras is Mrs. James D. Hogan, from the Marietta council. The annual Mardi Gras was originated by Atlanta Council 660, the mother council of the Atlanta area, and has become one of two major annual charity affairs sponsored jointly by the four metropolitan area coun cils. An invitation has been issued to the membership of the thirteen councils within the state of Georgia to participate in the activity this year. Tickets may be obtained through any Knight or through the individual council ticket sales chairmen. Ticket sales chairmen and co-chairmen by councils are: Atlanta Council 660, B. THANKSGIVING MASS Couple Renew Vows All members, working thr ough different committees, combined to keep the altar beautiful and the linens, vest ments, and sacred vessels in spotless and perfect condition throughout the year. Contemplation of the Borgia family, St. Peter Chanel, Card inals Hayes and Mundelein, and the book, "The Day Christ Died", was practiced by the Study Club committee during the year. A visit by the group to Holy ; Ghost Monastery in cluded a talk by Father Luke on founding of this order. On Silver Mr. and Mrs. Julius A. Jae ger have marked their 25th Wedding Anniversary at a Mass of Thankfgiving celebrated by Mrs. Jaeger’s brother, Rev. Eugene I. Van Antwerp of Men lo Park, California, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. The couple recited the Renewal of Vows before Rev. George B. Van Antwerp of Detroit, Michi gan. Monsignor Joseph Moy- lan, V.G.P. A. was present in the sanctuary. Other out of-town guests were Mrs, Eugene I. Van Antwerp of Detroit, Mrs. Jaeger’s mother, and another brother and his family, Major A, G. Van Ant werp of Orlando, Florida where he is stationed with the U. S. Air Force, The Jaegers, who came to At lanta in 1953, have eleven child ren. The oldest, 2nd Lt. Julius A. Jaeger and his bride of six weeks are stationed at Castle A.F.B. in Merced, California; the next son, A/C-3 Eugene M. Jaeger is stationed at Davis- Monthan A.F.B. inTucson, Ari zona. Peter attends St. Louis University and Daniel attends Christian Brothers College in Memphis. Juanita works at the Communicable Disease Center in Decatur. Twins, Mary and Frances, attend St. Pius XHigh School. Steve is at MaristHigh St. Gerard’s Altarians The St. Gerard’s Altar So ciety held its regular monthly meeting at the school onThurs- day, January 23,1964. The Rev erend Lawrence Murphy, CS. S.R., pastor of St. Gerard’s, offered the Invocation, Father Murphy discussed the needs of the parish and announced that the first Sunday of the month will be general "Communion Day" for the families of the parish. Mrs. Michael Samilo, who presided, discussed Lent, which will begin on February 12th. The members voted to purchase large altar candles. Mrs. Ralph Brown asked for assistance in making layettes to be given to needy mothers. Mrs. Robert Bearden and Mrs. Dennis Nordoff will have the care of the altars and the linens during February. Two new members, Mrs. Edward Eaker and Mrs. Hubert Mount, were present. Mrs. Mount re ceived the attendance gift. Mrs. Jack Burke and Mrs. Myron Shultes were hostesses for the social hour. CYO Plans For Talent Show Members of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Youth have tentatively planned a variety show for the near future. The affair will be open to all At lanta CYO members. Acts can be no longer than ten minutes in duration and a money prize will be awarded the best act. The success of this venture depends on a good response from the diocese’ Catholic youths, therefore anyone in terested should notify the publicity chairman immediate ly. Discuss Poetry The Altar Society of the Cath edral of Christ The King will meet Monday, February 3, at 1 o’clock in the Parish Hall Highlight of the program will be a lecture by Mrs. Arthur Bennett on the poetry of Fran cis Thompson. Mrs. Bennett has conducted many programs throughout the Archdiocese on Catholic literature. The spiritual development committee provided members of the Altar Society for the ado ration hours of First Fridays and for the Forty Hours Devot ion. Speakers included Rev. Thomas J. Roshetko, S. M„ who on separate occasions spoke on Sacred Liturgy of Holy Week and Shrines Visited in Europe; Rev. Vincent P. Brennan, S. M., who spoke on Chrisitan Unity; and Father Marian, 0. F. M., who showed slides and spoke on his missionary work in Bolivia. Projects of the ways and means committee, which raised over $3,000.00 during the year Lady’s Group The planning committee for the annual benefit bridge lunch eon of Our Lady’s Association for Exceptional Children held its first meeting at the home of Mrs. Lawrence Paine on January 22 at 8 p.m. The benefit is scheduled to be held at the Dinkler-Plaza Hotel on May 6th, Each year attendance at the * bridge luncheon has doubled. This year attendance will be by ad vance reservation only. Mr. Norman Eidson is chairman for the benefit and Mrs. G. S. Lawrence is serving as co- chairman. CHRIST THE KING Altarians Ready Heavenly Party The annual "Heavenly Party" sponsored by the Altar and Ros ary Society of the Cathedral of Christ the King, will take place ICS Fashion Show-Dinner The Home and School Asso ciation of The Immaculate Con ception School is completing final plans for the most impor tant school Benefit of the year- the Annual Dinner-Junior Fash ion Show which will take place in the Church Social Hall on Tuesday evening, February 4th, from 4 until 8 p.m. The Dinner will be a ham dinner prepared by the fathers of the Associa tion. A preview Easter parade of junior fashions will be model ed by students of the School and are being furnished by Davi son’s. The Fashion Show and Entertainment carried out in the entire group joining in the singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner.” A Raffle will be held in con junction with the entertainment with four valuable prizes being awarded. Door prizes will also be given away. Tickets for the evening's entertainment and Dinner will be adults $1.50, children 85£. All proceeds win go for the support of the school. on Saturday, February 8th, 1964 at the Dinkier Plaza Hotel from 6:30 until midnight. Cocktails will be served from 6:30 until 8:00. Tickets MEETING The Atlanta Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Nurses held their first monthly meeting of 1964 at St. Joseph’s Infirmary on Tuesday evening, January 21st. Marist Seminary Guild Plans Set The last meeting of the Marist Seminary Guild, Atlanta Chap ter, was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Michael T. Lam bert, Jr. and was devoted to completing plans for the bene fit card party to be held on Feb. 8, The party will take place in the Sacred Heart Assembly Room from 1:00 to 4:00 p»m.
